De metro van Guangzhou is een van de meest geavanceerde stedelijke metrosystemen van China. Het netwerk telt inmiddels 17 lijnen, beslaat meer dan 700 kilometer en bedient ruim 300 stations. Het netwerk bestrijkt 11 districten in de hele stad, waardoor het een handige en betrouwbare manier is om te reizen voor zowel de lokale bevolking als bezoekers.
Lijnen 1 tot en met 6 vormen de verbinding tussen de belangrijkste zakendistricten en grote vervoersknooppunten. De voorstadslijnen, zoals lijn 7 en lijn 14, reiken tot in de nabijgelegen districten, waaronder Panyu en Conghua. Lijn 3 brengt je in noordelijke richting naar de internationale luchthaven Baiyun, terwijl lijn 2, lijn 7 en lijn 22 je verbinden met het treinstation Guangzhou South, een belangrijk knooppunt voor hogesnelheidstreinen. De metro biedt bovendien een gemakkelijke toegang tot de Canton Fair via lijn 8, die stopt bij station Pazhou, de belangrijkste locatie van de beurs.

Metrokaartjes in Guangzhou kopen
De metro van Guangzhou maakt betalen nu een stuk makkelijker voor internationale bezoekers. Alle stations, inclusief de APM-lijn, ondersteunen de vier grote buitenlandse bankkaarten (Visa, Mastercard, JCB en Discover). Je kunt simpelweg je kaart tegen de lezer houden bij elk poortje met het kaartlogo om in en uit te checken.
Je kunt ook een Single Journey Ticket (het groene plastic muntje 🟢) kopen bij de kaartautomaten op het station met contant geld of mobiele betaling. Regelmatige reizigers kunnen de officiële Guangzhou Metro-app of de WeChat- of Alipay-miniprogramma's gebruiken om een QR-code ticket te genereren voor een snelle toegang. Bezoekers kunnen bij de servicebalie ook een Yang Cheng Tong-kaart met opgeslagen waarde kopen, met een restitueerbare borg van 20 RMB, die je ook kunt gebruiken voor bussen en veerboten. Alle kaartautomaten en apps bieden een Engelse interface, waardoor het systeem voor iedereen gemakkelijk te gebruiken is. Laten we elke optie en de werking ervan eens nader bekijken.

Sinds 12 oktober 2025 ondersteunt de metro van Guangzhou contactloos betalen met buitenlandse bankpassen. Reizigers kunnen hun pas nu direct bij het poortje scannen voor een snelle en gemakkelijke toegang.

Je hoeft geen ticket te kopen of een app te downloaden. Houd simpelweg je betaalpas tegen de lezer met de kaartlogo's bij het metrostation om in of uit te checken.

We stayed in Superior Room (2 Beds) (Room 1222), 3-4 May 2025 as I and my friend attended the phase 3 of Canton Fair. The check-in was efficient, front desk speaks good English. I was impressed by the efficiency of the check-in process, the warm welcome from the front desk staff. The lobby was clean. The room is spacious and clean, the bed is comfortable. They have provided bottled water, tea and coffee. The toilet is clean, toiletries were provided. The towels and bathrobes were clean. They have free shuttle bus to/from Canton Fair. During our stay, they provided a cocktail event for all the Canton Fair guests, with raffle prizes. The hotel's location was also ideal for my needs, just next to Guangzhou East Railway Station. Had the best 7 nights in this hotel! The room is so spacious, so clean and the lighting in the room makes it so comfy and welcoming! Too comfy till we didn’t want to leave the room 🤣 The hotel is in a very good location too. Walking distance to grandview mall and parc central and just downstairs there’s so many eateries that opens late at night too. Food is def not a problem. It’s a good place for didi pickups/drops off too and accessible via the one link mall too. Big big kudos to the staff in this hotel. Everyone from the entrance to the reception and to housekeeping are so friendly and professional. They make us feel so welcomed and we truly appreciate all their assistance towards us, especially before we arrive when we had to arrange transport and upgrade our rooms. The hotel was fully booked due to a concert, so the front desk kindly upgraded me to an executive suite, which I really appreciated! 🙏
**Amenities:** Fantastic! The in-room Jacuzzi and dryer were incredibly practical.
**Cleanliness:** Five-star standard. Having two bathrooms in the suite was very convenient.
**Environment:** Located on the 21st floor, it was very quiet.
**Service:** Excellent! I left an earring in the room when I checked out, and they found it and brought it to my door.

The hotel's location is absolutely perfect. The subway station exit is right outside, and TeeMall and Parc Central are next door.
Regarding the room assigned by the front desk – for me, it was a corner room. When I checked in, I specifically told the front desk I didn't want a corner room, and they insisted it wasn't. Later, I discovered it was indeed a corner room.
My main dissatisfaction is with the room's cleanliness. Upon entering, I found false eyelashes on the desk and the glass mirror. This is completely unacceptable for a 5-star hotel, which should ensure everything is spotless, not even a speck of dust. I also noticed the white sheer curtain had some minor stains.
Basic amenities like razors and mouthwash shouldn't require guests to actively ask housekeeping for them. The cleaning lady even told me, 'We only provide them if a guest requests them.' Seriously? This is a 5-star hotel. Regardless of whether a guest needs them or not, these daily essentials should be readily available in the bathroom.
The air conditioning in the room was also quite cold.
**The hotel also provides local phone numbers for international guests to place orders conveniently.** My only minor complaint is having to go downstairs to pick up food. The hotel should really consider using robots to deliver food directly to guests' rooms.VanPHP 7.162

This is an older, state-owned hotel, and staying here felt nostalgic. It's incredibly convenient as the metro and bus stations are right outside. During my stay, a neighboring room was under renovation, but thankfully, it didn't significantly disturb other guests. Just a small suggestion: it would be great if rooms without bathtubs could be offered as a separate booking option. Our weekend stay truly exceeded expectations, I have to give Sofitel a perfect score! The hotel boasts a French-inspired New Chinese style throughout, and the lobby's design is exceptional. There's a comfortable sofa area for relaxation and a lobby bar on the first floor where you can grab coffee. From the moment you walk in, you feel at ease. The front desk service was warm and efficient, making check-in a breeze. Manager MIA at the front desk even took the initiative to recommend nearby attractions and restaurants, which was incredibly thoughtful. Zhengjia Plaza is also very popular lately and conveniently located very close to Sofitel, so we took the kids there to play. It was clean and hygienic, though the facilities felt a bit outdated, like they were from many years ago. However, there were no strange odors in the room. Overall, it was decent for the price. The transportation was very convenient, right on Huanshi East Road. There are also plenty of great food and drink options nearby, all within easy walking distance. Zhixin Middle School, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, and Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center are all about a ten-minute walk away. Our hotel room was spacious and quiet. The city views outside the windows were amazing for being on the 35th floor. The amenities in the room were a bit old but mostly clean, e.g. you can see water stains around the hinges and edges of the shower door glass; tv remote didn't work (probably with a flat battery), but we didn't bother to tell anyone for watching tv; bins with no bin liners which gave me hygienic concerns; there were tea bags hid in the drawer, but no milk provided.
The location was about 15 minutes drive to Canton Tower by Taxi. There were plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby to choose from, not much shopping.
A positive to mention is that the reception let us check-in at 12pm instead of 2pm, with no fuss or additional charge. We were grateful, as we were exhausted after a long flight with early arrival, and we were already out on the street for 2 hours while waiting for the official check-in. The early check-in helped us to relax and settle.
We also accessed the children's soft play area and the outdoor pool. They were well maintained and big enough for an hour of play.VanPHP 4.315

I frequently stay at hotels around Zhujiang New Town, but this was my first time at this particular hotel. I mainly chose it for the 'five meals a day' offering. Since it was my first stay, when I checked in at the front desk on the first floor, a female manager, Ms. Zhang (I don't remember if her full name was Zhang Xingxing), heard about it and helped us upgrade our room type. We had a view of the Canton Tower and the Opera House. She also has an excellent memory for faces, always greeting us proactively when we returned from going out.
Overall, my experience was as follows:
1. Contrary to some online reviews, the doormen and staff were not inactive or unenthusiastic; they proactively opened car doors, helped with luggage, and provided directions.
2. The front desk helped us arrange birthday decorations in the room, which my child loved.
3. The meals were indeed a highlight. The five meals a day offered a rotating menu with almost no repeats. The freshly cooked items at lunch and dinner on the first day were different from those on the second day.
4. Room service was also prompt, contrary to some online comments about it being slow; they always provided what we needed in a timely manner.
5. The Food restaurant on the first floor, perhaps due to the number of guests, didn't provide the best service. Breakfast ended at 10:30 AM, and we arrived at 10:05 AM, but almost all the food we liked was already packed up. In contrast, the Executive Lounge did a much better job; even when guests arrived right as they were closing, they proactively offered meals.
6. Regarding room hardware, due to its age, the room layout did feel a bit cramped, and I personally thought the partitioning was illogical. However, the decor style was still up-to-date.
I'd like to express my gratitude to Jessica Sam (Manager Wang) from the Executive Lounge. Upon learning that we were waiting for a high-speed train and it was dinner time, she proactively reported to her supervisor to coordinate and provided us with complimentary dinner service at the Executive Lounge. The location is absolutely fantastic, right in the heart of Zhujiang New Town, making travel incredibly convenient. The city views during the day and the neon lights at night are breathtaking. The entire apartment has fresh air ventilation and a wet/dry separated bathroom, complete with a Dyson hairdryer – the attention to detail is truly impressive. The high-altitude gym is well-equipped, offering CBD views while you work out, and the self-service laundry room with washers and dryers is free and super handy, making business trips so much easier. The joy of traveling is choosing the right hotel, and China Hotel, A Marriott Hotel, Guangzhou is definitely a delightful choice. The bellhops greeted us with smiles and helped with our luggage, making us feel completely at home. The front desk staff provided friendly and efficient service, and check-in was quick. The room was clean and comfortable, and from the window, we had a beautiful view of the sky garden with its flowers, green trees, charming bridges, flowing water, and a waterfall – simply uplifting! The Executive Lounge has an elegant ambiance and a wide selection of drinks. A special shout-out to Martiv Huang, whose service to guests was impeccable and truly went above and beyond. Enjoying tea and delicious food here, with the lovely scenery as a backdrop, was wonderful. It was Children's Day weekend, and my kids love staying in hotels, so after some thought, we chose the Nansha Marriott! The hotel's location is excellent, with a mall nearby offering plenty of shopping and dining options. When we checked in on the weekend, the front desk attendant was very enthusiastic. Seeing that we had kids, she upgraded us to an executive floor, which made the children incredibly happy – they got to enjoy delicious NFC juice again! The room was spacious, very clean, and well-maintained. As soon as we dropped off our luggage, the kids couldn't wait to go swimming! The hotel's swimming pool water was very clean. Although it was crowded on the weekend, the pool was large enough, so there was still plenty of space to swim comfortably. While the executive lounge's simple meals weren't extensive, they were exquisite, with a good balance of meat and vegetables, making them very nutritious! The next day, the hotel's breakfast was incredibly rich, offering both Chinese and Western options. My favorite was the Cantonese rice noodles! The hotel is as we remembered - still as classy and elegant, with its stunning lobby and beautifully manicured central courtyard garden. The suite we were upgraded to has been recently renovated to a high standard and there are signs that other parts of the hotel are undergoing refurbishment too (for example, work on the roof) which is a good sign of regular maintenance. A pity though that the breakfast, whilst still brimming with choice and variety, has lost some of its quality. Breakfast at the hotel was, during our last visit, a serene experience we anticipated every morning. On our current revisit, the breakfast room has become chaotic and noisy like a railway terminal, as the hotel appears to gear increasingly towards catering for large conference groups. Tables, hitherto confined to the actual breakfast room and the lovely tree-arbored terrace overlooking the fountains and ponds, have now spilled over into the colonnaded corridors of the garden, ruining both the ambience and lowering the tenor of what used to be an elegant ritual.
