Located in a prime downtown spot, it's convenient for getting anywhere. Downstairs is very lively with restaurants, a food street, and a shopping complex all in one.
During weekdays in summer, there were many foreign guests... and quite a few elderly Chinese too. The front desk often had queues for check-in, and there were always people waiting for taxis outside. Business was really good, yet the room offered excellent value for money!
Thanks for the free upgrade to a deluxe suite~ It was newly renovated.
I was on a business trip and decided to bring my mom along so she could relax and enjoy herself.

The overall environment is good. The old five-star hotel is very well maintained; it doesn't feel old or dated.

My sibling and I stayed here, and the view was fantastic! It's close to People's Square and easy to hail a taxi. When checking in, we had two separate reservations for our two nights and one night stay. We asked if we could combine them into one room for three consecutive nights, and they happily accommodated us. Since one of the nights would have been a downgrade, they even added breakfast for two for all three days, lol. It was so good! They have staff who can speak Korean, and the machines are well-equipped. Everyone is so friendly, especially the staff – I love them! They also helped us with all our delivery pickups. I'm taking away wonderful memories from my first trip to Shanghai!!! And at checkout, Sandy and Lily were incredibly kind, helping with our luggage storage and giving us drink coupons, making the end of our stay great, lol. The view is excellent, and the accessibility is superb, so I think Koreans would also have a comfortable stay! Highly recommended!! I heard the pool was good too, but unfortunately, I didn't get to use it because we were busy sightseeing, lol. Anyway! Highly, highly recommended!!Van€ 97

We were there for 2 nights during our first trip to Shanghai & China and we were travelling with our 11 year girl. We moved from Hyatt on the Bund. The location was excellent for someone who wants to be in the middle of all action and at the other end of Nanjing Walking Street. You have the best walking street with all huge showrooms the family would want to visit including M&M, Lego, Miniso, Huawei within walking distance. Eric (Manager) was very kind and helpful to give us and all the guests a very special treatment and seeing we are enjoying our stay. We stayed in a duck themed room which was quite good in size and amenities. The breakfast spread was good but could be improved to accommodate Asian / western options. There was a McDonald’s / subway / Pakistani kebab place right below the building. The area felt very safe and not far from bund. The swimming pool and gym was nice as well. We did not get the time to visit the rooftop bar. Overall it was a good stay and we would not hesitate to return or recommend for othersVan€ 131

This hotel exudes an old-money charm. I booked a night at the Garden Hotel for a staycation, just to switch things up. It's a classic for a reason – the location is unbeatable; it's a leisurely 15-minute stroll back from the Shanghai Culture Square. Not to mention the stunning large lawn and the gorgeous Art Deco interiors. The service was excellent across the board, the pool was great for a swim, and breakfast offered the usual five-star Chinese and Western options, plus the Garden Hotel's special Japanese breakfast 😎. The location is superb, just a few minutes' walk from Shanghai Railway Station and the subway, making it incredibly convenient for catching high-speed trains or running errands in the city.
The lobby is grand and stylish, and the front desk staff were efficient and professional during check-in. The concierge service was thoughtful and attentive. The room was clean and spacious, with soft, comfortable bedding. The soundproofing was excellent; despite being close to the station, I barely heard any noise at night and slept very soundly. The bathroom had a separate shower and toilet, and the amenities were comprehensive. The desk and chair were also perfect for business travelers.
The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of fresh food, including freshly made omelets. The hotel also has an indoor heated pool and a gym, great for unwinding after a busy day. It's suitable for both business trips and short getaways. Accor's quality is trustworthy, and I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Shanghai!Van€ 71

Jing'an District/West Nanjing Road Shanghai|0.85km from city center
My friend was only staying in Shanghai for a day, so naturally, I wanted to give her an itinerary that offered both 'old-world charm and new-age chic.' While passing Nanjing West Road recently, this InterContinental 'Luxury Collection' hotel immediately caught my eye. And just as I expected, critical as she is, she complimented my taste the moment she walked in.
Its most appealing features are its convenient location and its ability to be a tranquil oasis amidst the bustle: step outside, and you're on the vibrant Nanjing Road; turn around, and you're in the quiet serenity of a residential area. My friend said the elevator decor instantly made her feel like she'd 'traveled through time,' and that unique 'Haitian style' evoked long-lost memories of Shanghai. She had originally come to sightsee but happily spent most of her day lingering at the hotel.
What she loved most were the terrace and the restaurant. On a summer evening, the breeze felt just like those childhood nights spent cooling off in the alleyways – she used to live in a Shikumen house. She remarked, 'If only I could lie in a wicker chair, fan myself with a palm-leaf fan, eat watermelon, and watch an outdoor movie, that would be truly divine.' She also adored the red hanging ornament in the lobby; it was vibrantly bright, yet its glass texture gave it a lively feel, much like Shanghai's character – passionate yet steady, with a touch of lightness within its composure.
The food did not disappoint either. I pushed her to try the Shiqipu Noodle Restaurant, where the owner asked in Shanghainese, 'Mi dao ai hao fa?' (Is the taste good?), and she smiled and replied, 'Authentic,' instantly tearing up. She specifically bought the sweet variety of butterfly pastries from the International Hotel – saying 'only sweet is truly Shanghai.' Her only regret was: having stayed in too many foreign-style grand hotels, this time, with Shanghai elements everywhere and Shanghai flavors in every bite, it was 'just missing the sound of Shanghai.' Perhaps the cicada chirps in the alleyways and the hawkers' cries from the Shikumen are the hometown sounds she truly yearns to hear.
However, she has already declared: the next time she returns, this will be her chosen hotel, and she plans to visit all the routes I arranged. I believe the charm of Shanghai has never been in its superficial glamour but in its ability to always find the most fitting way to blend East and West, ancient and modern, living as a unique 'Haipai' (Shanghai style). This is also the root that every Shanghainese person cherishes.
Below are the three half-day itinerary options I created for her, which I've also compiled here, hoping they might help someone else:
Option 1 · A Stroll Through Old Shanghai Charm
Start from the hotel's main entrance on Fengyang Road and turn into Huanghe Road. The Changjiang Building and Changjiang Theater were the last residences of Eileen Chang; Huanghe Road is the origin of 'Blossoms Shanghai' (Fan Hua). The International Hotel is where her mother and aunt once stayed; next to it, the Sports Museum is rumored to be where Eileen Chang used to study. Diagonally opposite is the History Museum (formerly the Racecourse); the East Wing houses the old bronze lions from the HSBC Building on the Bund, and the 'Echoes of Shanghai' exhibition in the West Wing happens to talk about the past of Fengyang Road. The ornate windows of the West Wing and the Changjiang Building, mirroring the hotel's architecture, perfectly showcase the most fashionable Art Deco style of the 1930s.
Option 2 · Tracing Red Memories
Walk along Chengdu North Road to the Secretariat of the China Labor Movement, to see how Shanghai workers united into a revolutionary force; then visit the former site of the Songpu Special Committee. Go to the Sihang Warehouse to hear the echoes of the Battle of Shanghai and see the bullet-riddled walls recount the tragedy of that year. At night, turn into Xiang Kang Li on Xinchang Road to find the former site of the CCP Central Committee's secret printing press; on Nanjing West Road, there is also the former site of the Soviet Liaison Office, where, amidst the flickering lights, memories of the past reside.
Option 3 · Modern and Retro Collision
The LV 'Big Boat' on Nanjing West Road is currently a popular spot for photos; after visiting, turn into Wujiang Road for shopping and dining, and further ahead is Zhangyuan Shikumen – where new trends emerge in old alleyways, perfect for capturing stunning photos.
Food Tips
· The hotel restaurant's afternoon tea set is exquisite and picture-perfect.
· Shiqipu Noodle Restaurant (the owner's Shanghainese is a living signboard).
· Deda Western Restaurant and Gongdelin Noodle Restaurant, each with its own charm.
· Donghai Small Restaurant (authentic Ningbo cuisine).
· Chongming cuisine on the second floor of the hotel, authentic local flavors.
· International Hotel butterfly pastries, remember to choose the sweet ones.
Though the day was short, the essence of Shanghai will give her much to savor. When she returns next time, we'll continue our journey.Van€ 128

The Westin Bund Center is a five-star hotel with an excellent location. It's within walking distance of Yuyuan Garden Metro Station, Yuyuan Tourist Mart, the Bund waterfront promenade, and Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street. The hotel is adjacent to the Bund Center, whose lotus-shaped roof acts like a crown for the hotel, giving it a grand and recognizable exterior.
The lobby atrium is a design highlight, featuring a 26-meter-high glass ceiling and a glass 'sky escalator' connecting the first to fourth floors, seamlessly integrating natural light – it's absolutely beautiful. The Lobby Lounge, located in the atrium, is surrounded by palm trees and flowing water, evoking a Southeast Asian vibe. It subtly encourages visitors to pause, enjoy the scenery, chat, and sip tea – truly a delightful way to live.
While the guest rooms aren't huge, their overall layout is well-planned and facilities are comprehensive. The Heavenly Bed is truly captivating; the soft, delicate, clean, and skin-friendly bedding enhances a deeply immersive dream. Three floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic city views – the more you stay, the more you'll love it!
The Stage restaurant offers a bountiful buffet breakfast, with both Chinese and Western options. The omelets are shaped like egg dumplings and taste great, the croissants are quite good, the tofu pudding is delicious, and the latte coffee is also pleasant. We didn't get to try the Chinese restaurant as it was hosting a wedding banquet.
The hotel also has a full range of fitness equipment and an indoor heated swimming pool. It's a truly joyful experience to relax and unwind here.Van€ 115

We booked this eco-friendly hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is very conveniently located: there's a metro station nearby, as well as two shopping centres. The hotel is large, but there was quiet and peaceful.
The view from the window was beautiful, even despite the typhoon that was hitting Shanghai these days (our room was on the 12th floor. We chose the hotel because of its location and good breakfasts. The breakfasts were really very delicious and tasty.
There was both Chinese and European food. A wide selection of fruits: watermelons, melons, apricots, mangoes, bananas, dragon fruit. There were many different pastries, several types of yogurts, even matcha yogurt.
Also, at the exit from the restaurant, there was a Candy Bar with chewy marmalade: you can put the marmalade in a small bag.
The room had everything, including a capsule coffee machine, an ironing board, and an iron, which is very convenient. l'd especially like to mention the eco-friendly slippers, which really stand out from the slippers in other hotels: they're very comfortable. Location: Conveniently situated, directly accessible from Hongqiao Railway Station underground, after passing through the complex, so there's no need to go above ground to find it. Dining and other amenities are also easily accessible.
Hygiene: Satisfied, quite clean.
Facilities: Well-equipped, though the air conditioning was a bit difficult to adjust.
Service: A big commendation to the front desk duty manager who answered the phone and handled my issue on the evening of March 13th. There was a slight problem with my room type upon check-in, and the duty manager resolved it promptly and with a sincere attitude. Very satisfied!Van€ 70

The hotel has a great environment, offers excellent value for money, and the staff are warm and attentive. The breakfast quality was superb, and the common areas were beautiful and well-equipped. The hotel's surroundings are quiet, yet transportation is incredibly convenient. It's just a 2-3 minute walk to the subway station and MixC shopping mall, and about a 10-minute walk to Korea Town. Facilities: Initially, I encountered some minor issues, but these were resolved after I moved to the Deluxe Balcony King Room. The room and bed were quite large, making for a comfortable stay.
Environment: The hotel is only a few hundred meters from the Bund, offering an excellent location with direct views of the 'Three-piece Suit' (Lujiazui skyline). The outdoor scenery is fantastic.
Service: The hotel's service was excellent, with many activities available, such as soap making, a Bund city walk, and guided tours like the Yu Garden Lantern Night. They also offered travel photography services, and both the makeup artist and photographer were highly skilled.

For over a decade, The Portman Ritz-Carlton has been my only choice when in Shanghai. It feels like coming home, a place I've grown attached to. This time, I had a business meeting, so I specifically booked an Executive Room. I highly recommend the Ritz-Carlton Executive Lounge – it's incredibly comfortable, the food and drinks are excellent, and it offers great privacy. The floor-to-ceiling windows on the 43rd floor provide amazing views; whether it's daytime or the city lights at night, Nanjing Road outside the window always has a different charm.
The room was as comfortable as ever, and the hotel service was superb – truly befitting a top-tier hotel. A small detail: this morning, while having breakfast in the Executive Lounge, I heard a server speaking to a guest in flawless, fluent American English. The staff's quality is indeed exceptional, especially since this is one of the Shanghai five-star hotels I've seen with the most foreign guests.

The hotel is located on Jiangsu Road, which is a great location right next to the Yan'an Elevated Road. The hygiene conditions were also good, and it offered excellent value for money. The most perfect trip! As a century-old hotel, the entire building is steeped in history. For those of us living in the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai region, the Peace Hotel holds a certain allure, and this trip truly allowed me to experience the most perfect hotel on the Bund.
Facilities: Renovated 10 years ago, the facilities are continually updated and far from outdated, creating an overall convenient and comfortable stay.
Hygienics: Perfect.
Environment: The surroundings speak for themselves. Step downstairs and you're on the pedestrian street, turn your head and you see the 'Three Tall Buildings' (Lujiazui Financial District). The convenience this brings is unparalleled. The hotel also has a rich Republic of China era ambiance, making it incredibly photogenic.
Service: Perfect! They even sent a small cake as it was almost my birthday! Thanks to Alexander for the excellent service; he meticulously introduced all the room facilities on our way up and was very thoughtful upon our departure.
Food: We dined at both the Dragon & Phoenix Restaurant and the Western restaurant. Overall, the prices are quite high, but the food was good, especially the拌面 (ban mian - tossed noodles), which was exceptionally delicious. We went to the Jazz Bar to listen to the elderly jazz band and resident singer – you could genuinely listen all night, it was so pleasant and relaxing. Additionally, the view from the Cathay Room Bar terrace is unbeatable. Tourists can visit during operating hours, but if you're staying at the hotel, you can go anytime without needing to make a purchase.Van€ 254

Location of the hotel is excellent but do note that when taking didi / taxi, they will not be able to pick / drop you directly in front of the hotel, but the walk is minimal, like less than 5 minutes. Metro station is also around the corner, like about 8 minutes walk. Lots of restaurants just directly opposite the hotel. Hotel deco is a bit old, sound proofing not good, always can hear when people walk / run pass the corridor, sometimes can even hear voices from next door. Can see the Oriental Pearl from the corridor. Don't like the tubed toiletries, especially if you are travelling with others, just 1 tube of body wash (eg) might not be sufficient for 1 day's use. Will consider staying here again if visiting SH again during non-peak season.Van€ 64

This stay was fantastic! The room was clean and tidy, and the front desk service was warm and attentive. A special thanks to the hotel for kindly arranging a late check-out for me, which made my trip much more relaxed without having to rush.

We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The hotel is beautiful, comfortable, and the location is absolutely fantastic — very convenient for exploring the city.
There are just two areas that I think could be improved.
First, when me & my daughter came to the hotel with 3 bif lugguages, the bell staff did not assist with carrying our luggage, which was a little disappointing
Second, I found the bathroom quite stuffy as there was no proper ventilation or exhaust fan. Improving the ventilation would make the room much more comfortable.Van€ 89

Before I went, I saw reviews saying the scenery was great and breakfast was amazing. After staying there, I truly understood the meaning of those words. Lujiazui, the river view, and the Bund are all within sight. In the morning, you can watch the sun slowly rise, with the morning glow painting the glass walls and the river. At night, the neon lights create a magnificent view. No need to squeeze with crowds on the Bund; you can just relax in your room, sip hotel coffee, and slowly enjoy the view. This hotel offers incredible value for money. For this location and price, there's really nothing significant to complain about.
Location: It's easily accessible from Jing'an Temple Metro Station exits 11, 8, or 9. Just cross the road and you're in the Jing'an Temple commercial district, which is super convenient for shopping and dining. It's about a 10-minute walk to Jing'an Temple itself, and you can take the subway directly to The Bund. Huaihai Road is also a direct bus ride away.
Room: I recommend the East Wing (Dong Yuan) – the rooms there are very quiet and you won't hear any street noise. However, the soundproofing between rooms is just average; if you have noisy neighbors, you can still hear them talking.
Cleanliness: The room was very clean, and the cleaning staff did a thorough job daily. The hot water for the shower was excellent, though the water pressure from the showerhead was a bit weak, not particularly powerful.
Amenities: They provide 4 bottles of Nongfu Spring mineral water daily, and you can adjust the AC temperature anytime.
Suggestions for improvement: The only minor issue I found was a small step right at the entrance to the room. Although the hotel has marked it very clearly, it's something older guests would still need to be extra careful about.Van€ 48
