Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) primarily serves domestic flights, and is located 8.6 miles away from central Chicago, making it the closest major airport to central Chicago.
Traveling from a different city in the U.S. to Chicago? Taking the Amtrak from your city to Chicago will take you to iconic Chicago Union Station, located in West Loop Gate in central Chicago.
Metra is Chicago’s commuter rail system. It operates 242 stations across 11 lines in Cook County. Going to downtown Chicago from the suburbs is made easy.
The “L” is Chicago’s rapid transit system, and serves 144 stations along 8 routes. Each metro line is named after a color. The Blue line reaches O’Hare International Airport (ORD) in about 40 minutes, and the Orange line reaches Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) in approximately 25 minutes from the Loop, one of Chicago’s central business districts. Both the blue and red lines offer 24-hour service year-round.
Taxis are readily available throughout most city neighborhoods, where drivers are required to pick up the closest passenger they see. Passengers are encouraged to tip drivers at least 10% of the total taxi fare.
