The mansion traces its origin back to the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1723–1735). The first owner, a tea merchant surnamed Gu from Shantang Street, purchased this plot and built the courtyard residence. With a history of nearly 300 years, he laid the foundation of the five-entry compound, defined its courtyard layout and dug the ancient well, and the place has been known as "Gu Mansion" ever since. The Gu clan of Suzhou ranks among the four great scholarly clans in the Jiangnan region, renowned for valuing education and literary heritage for generations. This Gu Mansion carries forward the clan’s scholarly legacy. In 1907, a modern school was established within the compound, pioneering progressive education in ancient Suzhou — hence the brand name "1907". Listed as No.46 Suzhou Protected Historical Building, the mansion is now renamed Suzhou Huafu · 1907 Private Hot Spring Mansion.
