Forest Cabin is a tiny house with a loft sleeping area that is 380 sf of coziness & solitude located on a larger 40 acre estate. Wake to a peekaboo view through the forest canopy & Puget Sound, relax in the outdoor clawfoot tub, rest in a hammock and watch the chickens and ducks peck about. Walk 5 minutes across the field to access 1000 ft of private, southern exposure Puget Sound beach. Enjoy a fire in the wood stove (wood provided)! Leashed pets are welcome with an additional $40 pet fee. The chickens and ducks meander outside your door. In the summer there are two hammocks in the trees for r & r. The beach southenrn exposure beach with Mt. Rainier view is 5 minutes away through the forest trails, and there is plenty of room for walking in solitude on the estate. There is plenty of wood around for a fire in the fire pit or at the beach (unless conditions are too dry - check with Lisa prior to lighting any fire, please!). There are four bedrooms (three with king/queen beds and one with bunkbeds), two baths and a rec room downstairs with a ping pong table and queen futon.The Greatroom has a large and cozy fireplace (pushbutton insert, the largest available) and large screen TV with Smart capabilities. Quartermaster Yacht Club with it's sailboat-only (read: quiet) membership provide a serene backdrop to your barbeque or cocktails on the deck. In Fall, weather stays warm through much of October, enough to enjoy the deck and dining alfresco. Witness the annual flock migrations as they fly by at eye level, and watch them dive for the rich bounty of the harbor.In Winter, the view becomes dramatic. The Fourth of July Vashon Fireworks display, which rivals Seattle's, is shot from a barge anchored in the inner harbor, DIRECTLY IN FRONT of our deck. Definitely the best place for the 4th.The Inner Harbor is calm and full of areas to explore. Two marinas, a Kayak Center, boat launch and park are all walking distance. We offer a rowboat and two stand-up paddle boards, as well as all sizes of life vests. Seals, herons, cormorants and a huge variety of crabs and clams are all there to observe and enjoy. Vashon is rural country, but you can walk to the best General Store left in the county, Harbor Mercantile (The Burton Store), a gorgeous 10 minutes walk. Also walking, the friendly Burton Coffee Stand is across the street. The Burton Loop, with its renowned Kayaking Center, parks and summer camp, is also a walk away. You can flag-stop Metro buses at the front gate of the house, for a ride into Vashon, the ferry, Seattle or Tacoma. If you're driving, there is room for 4 cars.In July and August, we have a 5-day minimum stay. Blackberries rule Vashon, and the sweetest and fattest come from this part of the island, everywhere you look. Recipes for ice cream, preserves, pie and sauces are in the cupboard, as is a terrific ice-cream maker. Vashon Park District offers amazing stays in the two renovated Keepers' Quarters at Point Robinson Lighthouse. The two residences share the beach with the lighthouse and several outbuildings. Both are available for vacation rental throughout the year, offering you a wonderful way to enjoy the beach, Puget Sound, and Vashon-Maury Island.Quarters B is a two-bedroom, one-bath, completely furnished unit with a full kitchen and sitting parlor. This house is restored to capture much of its historical 1919 condition. It can accommodate four to six people - with two bedrooms and one bath. The sunny kitchen in Quarters B evokes a time of homemade biscuits and slow Sunday breakfasts. The sitting room boasts period furnishings and contemporary comfort. This property is perched near the lighthouse on the shore of the East Passage in Puget Sound. It offers a wondrous porch looking out over the Salish Sea, and on a clear day, Mount Rainier (known as təqʷuʔməʔ or Mt. Tahoma to the Coast Salish people).Quarters B is part of a duplex comprising half of the downstairs and the entire upper floor of the house. Enjoy peace and quiet at the Cottage at Useful Bear Farm. Vashon Island has lots to offer year-round: beaches, hiking, biking and bird-watching. Conveniently located near the north-end ferry and close to town where there are wonderful shops and restaurants. The cottage has full kitchen, bathroom and living/dining room on the first floor. Upstairs is a large sleeping loft with queen bed separated by a divider and a trundle bed and sleeper sofa.
