"Having read a couple of reviews on TripAdvisor I agree that the owner is rude. We had lunch and I jokingly that I said I would talk to Captain, the parrot and the owner looked at me in a stern manner and asked me TWICE if I was serious. Golly, some people cannot take a joke and he was really angry and said ‘wait until it’s on the other foot’ whatever that meant. I was really surprised at his attitude and certainly has put us off ever going there again for lunch. Apparently he told my husband that they’ve had trouble with customers being rude to staff. And he said that I as joking. It used to be lovely and years ago we frequented it often but never shall I set foot in the place again."

Bampton Townhouse ★★

"Great marketing and a very comfortable bed but very far from luxurious! We were in the biggest room with nowhere to put our clothes. I’ m 5ft 6” and could barely reach the cost pegs which were too large for my coats; there was nowhere else to hang up clothes and the couple of tiny drawers were big enough for underwear only. Cases had to be opened on the floor. Coffee/tea but no milk were available in the kitchen downstairs (I got dressed again and went to the Spar opposite for milk). A tiny plastic box in the bathroom held the very mean selection of shampoo etc. ( only enough shampoo for one and a couple of sample type sachets of bath oil). Are 2018 magazines sufficiently old to be considered retro? That’s the reading material in the room. Perhaps the owner has not noticed the damp in the wall beside the large mirror. This is an AirB&B at best, certainly not a hotel."

"A wonderful stay at this fantastic hotel. Staff were excellent. Food was fantastic. Good priced bar with a varied selection. Beds super comfortable. Lovely location too with some fantastic dog walking areas."

"Stayed there for 3 nights the other week. Friendly landlord/owner, lovely room and possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Breakfast was filling and lovely. And we got to meet a local legend, Denzil the cat 🙂 Highly recommended."

"Just spent 3 days visiting friends in Bampton and we stayed at Bridge House! With the most welcoming of owners! Nothing was too much trouble, good food and a great room with a huge en-suite. The whole place was spotless superbly decorated and tastefully furnished we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it."

"Ik was gereserveerd om in de kleine tweepersoonskamer te blijven, maar de dame verhoogde me naar de grotere kamer, zeggende dat ze het beter voor me voelde. De kamer was groot en ruime, met een koelkast. Een druppel melk wordt geleverd voor thee en koffie, en er is ook water in de koelkast. De dame was zeer vriendelijk en de meest hulpeloze en geïnteresseerd in het verzekeren van alles wat ik nodig had. Ik had alleen een ontbijt op een ochtend, maar het was goed gekookt en op tijd, omdat ik het vroeg. Het is in een rustige locatie, maar ik zou het aan iedereen aanbevelen om weg te komen van het hele huis of zakenmensen. "

"The owners have pitched this pub just right. Perfect for families, couples or a swift pint if you are on your own. Food amazing with whopping portions. Chef really flexible and can cook everything on the menu to an exceptional standard. The setting is beautiful against the back drop of a River and beautifully tended gardens. We have a holiday let on Exmoor and advise all our guests to come here and it never disappoints. Huge credit to the owners and the staff, who are always really friendly."
