"Hatherley manor is beautiful. The grounds are lovely and the positioning for Cheltenham and Gloucester is perfect. It’s a The AA 4*, and the rooms on their website are lovely and as a package I’m sure it is. However, booking a standard room is the equivalent of a Travelodge and very disappointing. The room I was given when booked through trip wasn’t great. I’ve stayed in Hatherley before and had a glorious room. This one felt like the old working staff quarters. The window was a poor quality double glazed unit that had condensation in between the panes which stopped you being able to look out of it properly. Thankfully, this hid the view of what looked like a static caravan with rubbish on the roof on the internal ‘courtyard’. The window covering was a roller blind you’d find in a shed and did nothing to block out the light in the morning. The kettle and refreshment area looked like an afterthought. The bed was relatively comfortable, but clearly and old spring mattress as I could feel them through the sheets. The pillows were reasonable fibre pillows, but I always travel with a feather pillow as life is too short for rubbish pillows. The hotel itself did seem very quiet when I was there, so I did get a good night sleep, although with the window open you could hear the air conditioning unit situated in the courtyard. Finally, the spa was nice. Clean and all the facilities were working. No robe included in my room, however there were flip flops. I’d consider staying again, but the significant difference between expectation and reality of the classic room had disappointed me. The room was tired and shabby, but the rest of the hotel really is lovely."

"Good location. Staff very friendly and helpful and familiar from previous visits, a good sign. Room as expected, basic but comfortable. In a heatwave, the aircon worked well and wasn’t noisy. Comfortable bed and pillows. Low shower pressure. Only one room in the hotel with a walk in shower, an “accessible “ room. They need more - showers are more popular and use less water! Restaurant next door good value, again basic but fine. Staff great and we remembered them from a previous visit too. Breakfast good value. Paid parking, but only £3 per 24 hours. Convenient for our relatives, and close to M5. Plumbing could use an update."

"Amazing breakfast - no problem being gluten free, gluten free sausages from a local butcher, gluten free bread from a local bakery and not made to feel like it’s a problem. This is my second visit so can safely say it’s not a one off and they have improved since the first visit with the new bread, great to find a place that’s always trying to improve its gluten free offering. The non- gluten free breakfast seemed to go down well and the dog was made to feel sooo welcome and enjoyed her sausage too!!"

"Rooms in hotel are lovely and comfortable and self catering facilities are in room which is great. Rooms are clean and homely. Now for the bad! I paid 600 pounds for 5 nights accommodation on condition it included breakfast and no breakfast was provided. The food in the restaurant in the evening was very good however it very expensive with the cheapest item being 16 pounds. The noise during the night is dreadful round 2am in morning from windows not being secured tight in rooms and water pipes. The wood on all windows is rotting away. Such a shame for a beautiful place."

"Good location if you have a vehicle and there's free parking behind the property. Hosts very helpful My room had separate entrance from garden which was nice. There's a breakfast area and access to tea coffee supplies. Fresh towels if you want. Gloucester cathedral not far. Buses nearby."

"Very good accommodation, ideal setting and very nice hosts but we didn't like having to share the breakfast table with strangers, we all felt awkward as if we were entering other people's private space. Also, just one weak mug of tea, it would be better to have a teapot full to help ourselves and more toast, with an option of sunflower spread instead of butter, would improve the breakfast a lot. All in all it was a nice stay and I'd recommend it but please split the guests up at separate tables, we're not all social butterflies first thing in the morning."
