"Over het algemeen hadden we een aangenaam verblijf ondanks een paar problemen, maar het personeel was attent op het commerciële beleid van het hotel. Het negatieve punt blijft het uitzicht dat we hadden vanuit onze kamer (geen van onze ramen met uitzicht op de muren). Het beddengoed is uitstekend en de grootte van de kamer is correct, maar de locatie van het toilet kan een probleem zijn, afhankelijk van de morfologie van de gasten. Over het algemeen hadden we een goed verblijf, maar ik verwachtte beter in termen van diensten voor een 4-sterren"

The cleanliness is impeccable, which is very important to us 😀. The bed is comfortable, we sleep well. The staff is friendly and gave us useful tips for visiting the city. The gentleman who was there at checkout was very friendly, professional, and made us want to come back by telling us about the Festival of Lights, which will take place in February or March 2024. We thank him in passing ☺️ We recommend it and will stay there without hesitation if we return to Chartres one day."

"A very pleasant surprise. The location is next to Chartres station for quick access to the trains (but it is not noisy). The town is also compact, so walking to the main attractions such as the Chartres cathedral is only 5-10 minutes away, and there are restaurants and cafes nearby. The room was clean, and well-furnished. In my room, there was a small kitchenette for self-catering. Hair dryer was also provided in the room. There were two staff members (one in the morning and afternoon), who spoke excellent English and were very friendly and accommodating. Their attitude was no different than that of the staff members of a 5-star hotel."

"A very strange experience to say the least! Some would find this hotel amazing, others would hate it! A real 'marmite' experience... sadly we found it really awful in some ways... We arrived in the afternoon and checked in. Went up to our room on the 3rd floor. Looked very basic with a very high up window impossible to see out of or open - very basic single beds, no TV or any lounge to relax in. Oh well - it got hotter and hotter in the room (it was August and scorching outside) and we did try to call at Reception before they were due ro close at 8pm... but... it was locked and nobody around... We had a nice meal in a nearby restaurant. 5 stars for the place - and on return the room was even hotter and stuffier. We suffered a sleepless night with no air and no way to get jigh enough to open the window. Relieved to get out in the open air at 6am to breathe again! Breakfast was OK and we were relieved to be on our way South aftwr collecting our overnight things. This place may well appeal to some as it is so quaint and different - but we'd have given anything for an open window and a desk fan to make it at least bearable. "

Breakfast was well organized and could be enjoyed at any time in the morning. Room but specially the bathroom was very spacious and well utilized. Only downside is the lack of private parking and busy public parking on the roads around the Maison."

"We booked Maison Ailleurs at the end of last year, having read the excellent reviews on this site, but must agree with recent reviewers who have noticed that all is not well at the property. Even before our stay we were frustrated by the lack of communication. Most things were dealt with by automated, non-reply messages and when we used the contact email for the non-resident host it went unanswered. During our stay we hardly saw another human being and we began to feel a bit vulnerable. Unfortunately the breakfast boxes which were well reviewed had been discontinued before our arrival and this meant there was even less need for the host to be around. It dawned on us that we hadn’t even been given a telephone number for the host so we’d have been in desperate trouble if there had been an emergency. To make matters worse, the lock on the courtyard gate started to play up on our last night (even though we’d been told on arrival that the courtyard gates would always be left open). We were genuinely concerned about getting back into the property after dinner. We’re pretty seasoned, independent travellers, but it’s hard to relax and enjoy yourself with these worries in the back of your mind. Maison Ailleurs needs to review the way they operate with particular regard to guest safety and security. Their once super service has been delegated to automation. Book with caution."
