Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn

"I booked this accommodation because it appeared to meet my needs, had good reviews, central, parking and WiFi. When I arrived I waited at the bar to check in and although, given keys to my room, was asked to leave them at the bar, if I was going out, in case of fire. After a short walk round Castleton, I collected my luggage and waited at the busy bar, until the barman had finished serving customers, in order to retrieve them. If I wanted to go out during daylight hours, I had to deposit them behind the bar, I found this both odd and irritating. My room was clean but there was no view from the window, it was blocked off from the outside. The main light came from one very dim lamp in the middle of the wall. The shower control box was so high up, without glasses I couldn’t see which way to turn anything, the head leaked more water down the pipe than came out of the head itself. When I asked about the lack of a WiFi connection, I was told it was hit and miss but looking at many reviews, it appears it’s non existent upstairs, downstairs is better, something that would have deterred me from staying there. Whilst I appreciate keeping carpets clean with ‘heavy traffic’ constantly treading on them, is not easy, the carpet leading up to the rooms was dirty and needed either replacing or removing altogether. I can’t comment on the food, evening meals were off the night of my stay and I chose cereal for breakfast. All in all, it did not live up to expectations but was ok for a night. "

"Had een fantastische zondagsrestaurant. Het was absoluut heerlijk. Onze bediende Will was zeer vriendelijk. Paddy was briljant en hielp ons om onze diner boeking te herstellen. Ik zou HELDIG het Peak Hotel aanbevelen."
