"We planned to stay overnight here, but, unfortunately, I was taken seriously ill and had to be taken to the hospital by the emergency services (nothing to do with the hotel!). Our French was limited, but Laurent, the Directeur, was kind, considerate and supportive, helping to translate between us and the emergency services and then looking after my wife during a very stressful two days. We cannot thank the staff enough and were made extremely welcome by everyone. When we return to Bethune, we will definitely stay here again."

"Tweede keer bij de Eden. De locatie kan niet worden gefaald in Bethune, recht in het centrum, 50 meter afstand voor alle bars en restaurants, de kamers (55EUR) zijn uitstekende en geweldige vallei, het ontbijt biedt een geweldige keuze voor 10EUR Het hotel komt in zijn eigen, als je op fietsen bent, De eigenaars lieten u uw fietsen gratis parkeren in hun tuin. Maar op dit bezoek, mijn fiets had aandacht nodig, omdat het 6 dagen hardrijden in de Alpen geweest. Vanaf ons vorige bezoek wist ik dat de eigenaar een motorfietshandelaar was in het verleden en hoopte dat hij mij in de juiste richting zou kunnen wijzen om mijn fiets te krijgen, tot mijn genoegen hij net zei werken op de fiets! Geen kosten, absoluut buitengewone dienst. Kan de Eden niet hoog genoeg aanbevelen."

"I’m really not sure how to review this one night stay. The room itself once we finally got in, was decent. Good shower, very comfy bed, good location, good parking. However, we turned up just before 6pm and we got into our room around 8.15pm. During the middle part of this, we got very wet trying to get a reply from the ‘hotel’ buzzer, spent a lot of money on phone calls to the ‘owner/manager’ and thought a lot about where else we could stay overnight because we were clearly not going to get into the hotel we had booked. It was a complete mess. No response from the buzzer and no response from the 2 phone numbers we were given. Having made 20+ calls, we eventually got a call back with lots of (quite complex) instructions on how to get our key, where the room was located (different location) and - specifically because I asked how to get through the gate of the new location - an explanation as to how to actually get into the car park entrance to our room. This really isn’t what you want for a one night stay when you’ve driven 300 miles that day. Breakfast is not a buffet - as advertised when we booked - but a few random bits in your room. I have no idea if these are changed for the next guest. Trip.com couldn’t or wouldn’t help - I’m really not sure - and the owner was not contactable. I’ve had no apology since. The explanation we were given as we stood outside in the rain was that the person ‘had been in a meeting’. They may need to review their reception processes. The reason I’m not giving this a one-star review is because the person who finally rang us to tell us what to do, was lovely and the room was pretty good (air con needed, but otherwise a good room)."
