Intramuros, commonly known as the Walled City, is the oldest part of the city which is all that remains of 20^th Century Manila. It was the capital of Spanish East Indies from 16^th Century to the late 19^th Century. With many churches, courtyard palaces and buildings incorporating the colonial architecture, one gets the feeling of a European city. In particular, you must visit Fort Santiago, the Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church which proudly stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Agustin Museum and Casa Manila. You can take guided walking tours or a bamboo bike tour! 

Binondo is Manila’s Chinatown, which also happens to be the oldest Chinatown in the world. Fill your stomach with scrumptious Filipino and Chinese food, as well a mix of the two cuisines. 

Explore Divisoria for clothes, shoes, souvenirs and other items at low prices. You can also try Filipino street food and a variety of fresh fruits. 

Rizal Park is of great historical importance, which was where Jose Rizal, who brought the Philippine Revolution ahead, was executed. The park is spread over 60 hectares of lush gardens, open lawns, ponds, and paved walks. 

Take a stroll along the Baywalk on Roxas Boulevard and witness a breath-taking view of the sunset. Afterward, you can enjoy the scene over some drinks at a nearby bar or with live music by street performers. 

About 2-3 hours outside of Manila, is Mount Taal which is said to be the world’s smallest active volcano where you can hike and get some fresh air, a change from the metropolitan city. Other day trips from Manila include the Pagsanjan Falls, Pinatubo Crater and Tagaytay Ridge. 

Manila has 16 huge malls, and you can find just about anything here, from grocery, restaurants, clothing stores to entertainment centres, arcade games and so much more. The biggest shopping malls are Mall of Asia with its Olympic sized skating rink, Mega Mall, Glorietta, Greenbelt with its high-end amenities and TriNoma with its unique reverse waterfall. 

Tip: Ubers and jeepneys are a good way to get around the city. Public transportation in Manila is quite extensive and very cheap.

Intramuros is the heart of Manila’s historical sites where you will find colonial-era buildings and churches. Ermita is famous for its nightlife and its delicious Filipino food. It also has plenty of family-friendly attractions like Ocean Park and Museo Pambata. Sampaloc is a student dominated area, but it is also an excellent place to relax and party at!
