My non-smoking room smelled of smoke. Fortunately the staff were exceptional, and I soon received another room.
One staff told me that because the room was ”Japanese Style”, and that I had to take the bedding from the closet, move the low table and make up my own futon.
I live in Japan and I know what a ”Japanese Style” room is. Ryokans of a good grade will have staff make up the futons. When a hotel is too large, the work of making up the futons for all rooms becomes onerous, however, one wonders why ”five star hotel” if one has to make up one's own futon AND receive education on what a ”Japanese Style” room entails [ I am in the hotel business].
The lobby is bleak and looks cheap. No style, no charm. The seating is ugly and cheap. There are real plants here and there but no cut flowers. Cut flowers are very expensive in Japan. Too expensive for this hotel.
The final point is that I booked this specific hotel in order to take a swim. Although the weather was fine, the pool had closed the day before I arrived. The pool was still full of water, perfect and peaceful, but ”closed”. No doubt, this saves on staff and other expenses, in the same way that making up one's own futon does . . . all this is fine for a hostel, but not for a luxury hotel.
I have been generous with my star-giving because I like to be kind, and because several of the staff were truly exceptional in their kindness and service, however, we hope that the management will note our comments. Please pay for more staff and please keep your pool open as long as the weather permits. Global warming means pools can stay open longer. :-)
Good price with a nice view. View of the bridge during the day is breathtaking. The new wing’s rooms are a lot nicer. Not much service. No one helps you with luggage when you arrive. And staff don’t look too helpful or happy. The hotel is near outlet and easy drive to Kobe city centre. Breakfast is good with a lot of bread variety. You need to bring your room towel to public bath. For this price I wouldn’t mind staying there again.

The hotel is very beautiful, the rooms are large and clean, we enjoyed the bar with a jazz singer, the food was delicious. I love the jacuzzi bubblebath and the amenities is awesome all rooms has verandas you can see the beautiful view of kobe tower & port .The only thing I didn't like was the receptionist at the front desk, not friendly, the treatment was not welcoming, you didn't see a smile when greeting.
The high-end hotel that has the longest history in Kobe. It is above a free museum about Kobe. It was very luxurious, and had a wonderful restaurant for Kobe beef, but don't forget to reserve online. All rooms face a certain direction toward the mountains, but not toward the water.
During our stay, the gym was not available. And the location is surrounded by luxury brands, not by the station or markets for food.
Please book this hotel if you go to Kinosaki Onsen!
The staff was really amazing. They were all super friendly and nice and always put so much effort in making our stay enjoyable. Big thanks to Kairi for explaining everything so well and always being patient with us. Also thanks to Tomoki for the great service. We loved our stay there so much we would love to come back here again when we visit Japan again! Also loved the town itsself and all the Onsen.
The hotel itsself also gives you public Onsen as well as private ones that you can book in advance. They were amazing too. The food included in our Halfboard was also amazing! Loved everything here! Garden view from our room was so relaxing and great as well!

Great
ZZhezidashuA very satisfying trip to Awaji Island was made even better by our hotel. Everything was arranged in the best way. We changed buses from Kyoto and confirmed the pick-up station through the Ctrip platform. When we arrived, it was still early, so we took the free shuttle bus to go shopping (with luggage back to the hotel). We used the coupons to buy lunch and ice cream at Hello Kitty. When checking in, the male waiters all kneel down to serve, and confirm the information of dinner and going out the next day. The room we stayed in is a single-family round house like a yurt with a viewing balcony and a wooden bath. The details of the room are all local characteristics (dressing box, free mini bar/dessert, washbasin are all petrified wood). The central roof is transparent and empty, and you can also observe the stars. We enjoyed the food here for 5 days, especially the dinner was not repeated and changed in various styles. What surprised me was that the waitress could perform saxophone and flute at dinner, and there was a restaurant like a stage on the island where you could also enjoy the waiter's musical performance. The 20,000 consumption vouchers given for 5 days are enough for you to go out for free at noon. We also bought Hello Kitty exclusive gifts for the children at the Big Apple with the vouchers. This trip to Awaji Island is more memorable than the trip to Kyoto, and the people are simple and honest. Everyone is working hard to promote tourism in Awaji Island, which is worthy of praise. I will bring my children here next time.
GGuest UserThis was my second stay at the Hotel Okura Kobe, and the service was just as attentive and thoughtful as I remembered. The front desk kindly upgraded me to a higher floor room, which was spacious, comfortable, and offered fantastic views. The breakfast had a wide variety of options and was consistently good. Overall, a perfect experience – I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time!
GGuest UserGrand Mercure Awaji Island boasts unparalleled sea views of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and the Seto Inland Sea. Its excellent location, however, makes it best suited for guests traveling by car. Our sea-view room was spacious and comfortable, with floor-to-ceiling windows that made the morning sea sunrise a daily spectacle. Both breakfast and dinner offered a wide variety of dishes; we especially recommend the Awaji Island milk and local onion specialties. However, dining options nearby are limited, meaning you'll likely rely on the hotel's restaurant for dinner. Without a car, finding other dining spots would require a taxi.
The hotel service was attentive, and the front desk staff spoke fluent English, providing helpful guides to local attractions. While the rooftop open-air hot spring bath isn't natural, it was uncrowded, peaceful, and incredibly relaxing with its sea views. On the downside, the facilities are a bit dated, and there's a noticeable lack of family-friendly entertainment options.
Overall, this hotel is ideal for guests seeking serene sea views and a relaxed pace, offering particularly excellent value for money during the off-season.
GGuest UserOverall, a wonderful place. We highly recommend it. It was a wonderful walk from the station to the hotel, and we were greeted with the utmost courtesy, explained everything, and shown around. We were shown to our room and given instructions. We booked a traditional room with futons, and the view from the window was simply stunning. The onsen includes two hot springs, a comfortable changing area with massage chairs, a sauna, and a cold plunge pool. They give free passes to seven public baths in the village. There's a shuttle that takes you to various walking spots. The prices are reasonable. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. We were very satisfied and would love to come back!
GGuest UserThe room was slightly different from the pictures, but it didn't affect our stay. The surroundings were truly beautiful, especially the colorful autumn mountain scenery right next to the hotel. The facilities were a bit old but still clean and hygienic. The older staff members were incredibly helpful; when we requested water delivery around 6 AM, it was brought to our room immediately. However, the younger staff seemed to lack a bit. We had luggage and told the front desk that we'd wait in the lobby for about ten minutes before taking the hotel's shuttle to the Hankyu bus station. We saw the shuttle arrive and leave twice, and we didn't have time to go out and stop it. It would have been great if a doorman could have held the car for us. This caused a delay of about 20 minutes. Luckily, we had plenty of time before our scheduled bus departure, otherwise, we would have been very anxious.
GGuest UserBy far the best hotel/resort experience I ever encountered. Not only did we travel with a family of 5 but we had 10 luggage’s in total which they helped to organise and deliver to our room even though it was really heavy. Accommodated to everything that we need and asked and super welcoming. The small details that they would do have imprinted in my memories for life e.g remembering which shoes we had, prepared our slippers, explaining our meals and providing a blanket without us asking. I hope this reaches out to the manager who put the most effort to making sure we were happy and looked after. We would all recommend this place to our families and friends. 1000/10 S+++
GGuest UserA heartwarming and thoughtful mountain hotel experience.
This hotel stay completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I felt a deep sense of genuine hospitality – there was a dedicated shuttle service directly from the station to the hotel, saving me the hassle of dragging my luggage around.
The next day, I planned to explore the hot spring town at the foot of the mountain. The hotel proactively offered to store my luggage and deliver it to the station at the bottom of the mountain at the agreed time, completely freeing up my hands. The food was surprisingly delicious, with fresh ingredients and thoughtful pairings. The room was clean and comfortable, meticulously cleaned daily, and the common areas were also spotless.
The service throughout was attentive yet unobtrusive. From the shuttle arrangements to the luggage storage, everything was efficient and heartwarming. It's truly perfect for travelers planning a hot spring trip. I'll definitely choose this place again on my next visit.
GGoocatThe “sea view” was very disappointing and honestly not what I expected at all when booking this room.
What made the experience worse was the pricing issue. After my booking became non-refundable, the hotel price dropped by around 30%, which was shocking. I’ve never had this happen before. The explanation that the lower price was a different non-refundable rate doesn’t fully justify such a big drop. On top of that, trip.com customer service only gave me an update after I followed up four times, which was frustrating.
Check-in was also a poor experience. We arrived around 9pm with a child, and there was no staff at the ground floor to help with luggage at all, even though the reception is on the 17th floor. After check-in, there was again no assistance with luggage, which was very inconvenient when travelling with a child. Despite my booking clearly stating one adult and one child, there were no kids’ amenities provided, not even a child’s toothbrush.
GGuest UserThe room was clean overall and service was quite good. But my stay at the hotel ended on a low note. On my check-out day I decided to have breakfast at the hotel restaurant on the 2nd floor. The menu included a ”Continental Breakfast” (at 2000 yen), for which I could choose between toast/croissant/danish, different juices, and coffee or tea. I assumed that the above choices are breakfast items with options, and expected a normal ”Continental Breakfast” which usually includes an egg, bacon/sausage/ham, and some potato fries etc. It turns out that this continental breakfast includes *only* 3 pieces of toasted bread (they later gave me 2 additional pieces because the original 3 were too burned), along with juice and coffee, charging me 2000 yen just for these. I felt this is a rip-off even for a hotel breakfast, and misleading.
GGuest UserWhat a fantastic ryokan! We spent a long time choosing where to stay in Kinosaki – my husband and I both have a lot of large tattoos, so Kinosaki was the perfect onsen village option for us, as all the onsens here are tattoo-friendly, even if you have very large and numerous tattoos. In the end, we decided to stay at Yuraku and were absolutely delighted! The hotel is located a short distance from the station and the main street (literally a 5-minute walk), which was a huge plus for us – it’s secluded, surrounded by a beautiful forest, quiet and peaceful. The hotel itself is beyond praise: it’s beautiful inside, the rooms are incredible, and the window offers a stunning view of a small pond with a waterfall and the forest. The kaiseki restaurant exceeded all expectations – incredibly delicious and very filling; we practically crawled out of the restaurant. You can choose several convenient dinner and breakfast time slots. The staff is very polite, friendly, and pleasant. A special bonus are the onsens within the hotel itself; After we'd explored all the public onsen (you'll be given a special card upon check-in that gives you free entry to any public onsen in Kinosaki), we decided to check out the onsen at the ryokan itself. You can book a private one for free, but we went ahead and checked out the public ones. There wasn't a single person in either the men's or women's onsen. The women's section has a stunning outdoor plunge pool under a canopy amid a bamboo grove—it's truly something! Plus, as a bonus, you can book a free hot tub for two when you check in. You can choose between a flower-infused or fruit-infused bath. Absolutely fantastic! Honestly, it was one of the highlights of our entire trip, and we highly recommend this ryokan!
