Fiesta Island

You have to go through a residential area to get here - but still worth it. Good to go at lower tides as you can take a look at the tide pools. Maybe not the most extensive area, but still you should take a look. Very different. Probably great for kids.

Fiesta Island is essentially a big paved loop on a peninsula into the bay. It's walkable, drivable, and bike-able. It's a flat, low circle of land that provides a lot of beach-space and has quite a few picnic areas, fire pits, and dog areas (you should only take your dogs to a dog-beach in San Diego). It is in the bay, so if you have kids, the waves will be way tamer here than other places.The campsites are awesome, and available first-come, first serve. During tourist season you'll have to get there pretty early in the morning to grab a good one (or one at all). They include city-sanctioned fire pits (the only places bonfires are allowed here), and nothing is more fun, or more San Diego, than a beach bonfire.

Another great San Diego park. Easy parking and a fun loop around for a quick jog or bike ride.

Fiesta Island Park is located on a peninsula that juts out into Mission Bay. The Island park is located south of San Diego. It is essentially a flat island with a road going around its circumferance. On any given day, you'll see people hiking, jogging, riding jet skis, and kiteboarding around Fiesta Island.

Awesome park to see different breeds of dogs and to let your own dog off the leash. The only downside is I wish more people would clean up behind their dogs.
