Looks simple? look / think again.
These stones represent the lost lives on which we walk today. Stepping across the cobbles, located where thousands of soldiers actually passed to their doom Poignant and powerful.

An interesting memorial
A large, but simple memorial made up of numbered stones. It's on The Leas so easy to find ...and it makes you think.

An interesting and thought provoking commemoration
The stones are laid out numbered representing the number of soldiers who died on the first day of the battle in WW1. The explanation panel should be closer to the stones.

Sometimes the simplest of memorials have the biggest impact......
This is a hugely moving and poignant artwork that commemorates the battle of the Somme and the 19,240 soldiers who died on the first day, with individually numbered stones representing those who fell....
