Booked this hotel last minute as we had to stay one extra night in the city and it was really amazing! This is a hotel I would definitely go back! The lady at the counter was extremely nice and she spoke Portuguese! She was really happy to be able to speak with us in Portuguese and we were happy she spoke Portuguese! The hotel location is really good, downtown near the parliament, and the room was amazing! Really big and spacious studio with a kitchen and a living room. Bed was really comfortable but the sofa bed was not that good (as in all hotels). Toilet was big and had all the amenities. Breakfast was good and had eggs, bacon, fruits, cereals, fresh waffles, chia pudding, bread, … They have private parking at an extra fee but the entrance is really narrow. There’s also street parking around at a fee.

Lovely stay. Enjoyed the jazz bar. Rooms are very clean. Nothing but good to say about our visit. Thank you.

Voor mijn eerste overnachting in Ottawa boekte ik een hotelkamer voor één nacht in Lord Elgin. Toen ik vroeg in het hotel aankwam, kreeg ik al een kamer toegewezen vóór mijn inchecktijd – wat ik zeer op prijs stelde. De faciliteiten zijn schoon en het personeel is vriendelijk. Wat we echter niet wisten, is dat onze kamer op de 7e verdieping via een tussendeur verbonden was met een andere kamer. We konden de hele nacht niet doorslapen, omdat de kamer nauwelijks tot geen geluidsisolatie had ten opzichte van de aangrenzende kamer, waar de hele nacht een baby huilde. Ik ben verbijsterd hoe we elk geluid konden horen: het hoesten en niezen van de ouders in de andere kamer, hun doorspoelende toilet en de baby die de hele nacht huilde. We konden niet comfortabel slapen en werden wakker met barstende hoofdpijn. Ik had dit hotel geboekt om zo dicht mogelijk bij de Rideau Canal Skateway te liggen, maar ik zal de volgende keer een ander hotel moeten zoeken.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here - the room was spacious as we were upgraded to a preferred corner room for free. The hotel had a WiFi issue when we checked in but the receptionist Todd was extremely helpful and gave us recommendations for food nearby while we waited to be able to check in. The location itself is central and close to the market, but there are quite a few individuals struggling with mental health, homelessness, and addiction issues who tend to linger in the area. The security for the hotel however is great. The gym is brand new with a great view and there is a hotel pool and sauna as well as laundry facilities. The hotel staff were always extremely helpful and accommodating, and went above and beyond to make us comfortable during the stay with small touches such as extra water. We would recommend staying here again based on the comfort of the room, the view, and also the incredible and friendly service.

Where to begin... first of all, when I made this booking, there was no mention whatsoever of HEAVY DUTY CONSTRUCTION beginning every day at 7 a.m. Naturally upon checking in, I'm informed that there is intense construction happening right next door. And yes, it was brutal. I also SPECIFICALLY booked this hotel because there was an option to reserve now, pay at the hotel. Here are some direct quotes from my booking confirmation email: ”You'll need to pay upon check-in at Andaz Ottawa Byward Market, by Hyatt,” ”Your payment will be handled by Andaz Ottawa Byward Market, by Hyatt,” and ”Pay at Hotel.” Sure enough, I get there, and the money's already been taken out of my credit card and I owe nothing to the hotel upon check-in. (This matters for reimbursement purposes at the company I work for.) Lastly, I was told when I checked in that housekeeping would be visiting every third day -- that was fine by me. But the very first day, I come back to my room after a long day and someone's been there, replacing towels, removing the minimal garbage in there, etc., which I was not at all prepared for given that I was advised the opposite. It made me extremely uncomfortable because all of my personal effects were left throughout the room, not expecting housekeeping given that I was advised no housekeeping would be coming until the third day. I'll be honest, that creeped me out as someone travelling alone. The staff were apologetic but I didn't find their explanation at all sufficient. (The housekeeping manager and front desk attendant completely contradicted each other.) Overall, such a chaotic stay. Oh, and, the heat in my room didn't work. Had to request a space heater... I mean, c'mon.
