The hotel is new, modern, and clean, with a beautiful scent in the hallways that reminded me of Crown Casino Melbourne. Rooms are high-tech with heated toilet seats, and thoughtful touches like free drinks in the lobby and bottled water in the gym and room. They even helped me iron my shirts! Good location, Spring square near, shoping center around, beatiful 49th rotating floor breakfast, excellent room, 7 bottles of water:), cheap minibar. The attentive front desk staff introduced me to a place to eat, but the language barrier prevented me. The boy wearing glasses and the lobby manager patiently translated for me. "I found what looked like an engorged tick or bedbug crawling up my bed. The hotel is pretty and I booked it for 1 night as a luxury treat so I could get a good rest for my layover stop to another destination. My room smelt like stale smoke unfortunately, though I had asked for non-smoking. I paid extra on my booking for breakfast and had to wake up at 6am, eat breakfast at 6.30am and go to the airport at 7.20am. My room had a bathtub so I took a bath before bedtime and went to bed at midnight, I got up to go switch the lamp off at 1am and found this bug crawling up the side of my bed going towards me. I think it's either a tick or a bed bug, the body was full of blood. It had 6 or 8 legs, difficult to see but I took a video which doesn't allow me to upload. I don't have any problems with normal bugs such as spiders, but if it is a tick or bedbug it is a big problem. I was really worried there were more hiding inside the bed, I called reception for help and they looked at the bug which I caught in a glass cup. They apologised deeply and changed my room, so I had to move at 1.30am. I explained I was already tired and have to wake up early. In the new room I was unable to sleep as I kept worrying about bed bugs. I got up multiple times to check my bed. And there was a noisy couple next door talking loudly until very late so I couldn't sleep. For a luxury hotel you should not need to loose a whole night's sleep because you are worried about bedbugs or ticks biting you. Nor should be able to hear noise from other guests through the wall. I was extremely exhausted the next day and did not have any appetite. I asked if they could refund the extra I paid for breakfast because I couldn't eat it, but they said it wasn't possible. So I forced myself to try eat 1 egg and some small rice porridge but couldn't finish it. Really expensive to pay for breakfast and hardly eat, it's a shame they couldn't refund the breakfast considering I had no sleep. For a 5* hotel, I would like to have good rest and peaceful sleep. But it was not like that. The staff were very kind and helpful, but it's not so easy to travel here alone. It was not easy to book a taxi for the following morning to the airport and it took 40 minutes of assistance, the man was very kind and helpful, but the hotel should make an easier system for foreign guests to book taxi. When I first arrived in Jinan airport, I had no idea how to get to the hotel. There is no ATM inside the hotel so you cannot withdraw cash, and you cannot pay with foreign card to book a taxi. The shangri-la website did not provide any details for public transport. It simply said bus transfer was available but did not say which number bus. I would give the details here but I have forgotten the route name and bus number now as it was hectic and I was very tired, sorry. I had to waste a lot of time trying to ask for help at the airport as the staff did not speak English. Luckily someone helped me. The bus will cost 20yuan and take you into the centre where you will see the intercontinental hotel and a large shopping mall on the left side of the bus, get off at that stop, it takes 1 hour. From there it's only 5 minutes walk to shangri-la. For a big hotel they should provide easy instructions on the website to guests. The staff apologised deeply for the bug on the bed, and offered 10% reduction of the room rate. Although when I checked out no refund was given and they didn't mention anything about it, I think they just charged full price. Personally I think 10% is not enough anyway. Nobody wants to change rooms at 1.30am because of bugs crawling on the bed. I didn't get any sleep at all and felt itchy because I kept thinking about bugs and couldn't eat the breakfast. I was absolutely exhausted the following day so I was unable to do anything at my next destination and had to waste 1 day more to rest. Unfortunately not an easy experience at the shangri-la."

"We booked the Kangyi Connecting Family Room, and it was an excellent choice for a family group. Check-in was smooth, and the hotel generously allowed us to check in early. Even when one of the two rooms wasn’t ready yet, they let us safely leave our luggage so we could head out and tour the city without hassle. The front desk staff speak English, which made everything straightforward. Both rooms were very clean, spacious, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The twin room even had a bath tub, while the other room was thoughtfully designed for older guests or wheelchair users, with supportive handles in the bathroom — a detail we appreciated. The Wi-Fi is fast, and the breakfast buffet at the restaurant offered a convenient start to the day. One of the highlights was that the hotel kindly allowed us a late checkout, which was incredibly helpful since our train ride was scheduled for later in the afternoon. This flexibility made our stay even more comfortable. Overall, a great hotel for families looking for convenience, comfort, and dependable service. I would definitely stay here again."
