very good location, room and hotel is a bit old with stairs without lift, reconsider if you have big suitcases. good view and good room. overall good experience

The room was small and unventilated. The bathroom and shower room were poorly equipped and the environment was extremely bad. The room leaked at the entrance, and the bathroom broke halfway through the shower. Equipment; the staff always just said that there is no one now, and they have to wait for the manager to go to work. For example, if you have reserved a room, please bring your own toiletries, and those who prefer to pay a little more money to go to the other side of the beach, can't be too small.

Just returned from a three night Breakaways stay, lovely warm spotlessly clean, spacious room, recently redecorated and re-carpeted with plenty of hanging and storage space. Very friendly and welcoming bar staff so made good use of the drinks package four daily vouchers each for a range of alcoholic or soft drinks. Excellent three course dinner with three choices plus coffee and an imaginative chef, with amazingly quick service by the waiters - no buffet scramble here or at breakfast. After a tip-off to reception and the Manager, the restaurant staff brought in a cake with candles and sang Happy Birthday to my wife; we finished it with our coffee on the ferry back to Southampton. As the good value package included the ferry and free hotel parking it made a very pleasant break touring the island with bright sunny days although with a chilly wind.

Awful food, came out cold and not as described on the menu, no allergy control. Small menu with no kids option, ordering on an evening runs the risk of only having 1 option for the meal. Room was okay, slightly decorated with very small bathroom and shower. Service on an evening was good at the bar as we had included drink although all the soft drinks were flat.

We arrived around 5 pm after an 11 hour journey but to be fair we have stayed on the Isle of Wight before and so we knew what to expect. If you haven't been to this area before it is extremely hilly there is a steep road onto the resort and a coastal pathway that will get you to the other resort of Sandown. Shanklin Beach does have a cliff lift which costs a pound to get you to the top but there is a 10 minute walk into the town centre. It's worth telling the chap in the lift if you are returning as you will need a ticket for the return lift to the beach. Our first opinion of the hotel on arrival was good as the sun was shining and the building stood out with its white paintwork. The coach driver Brian announced our arrival to the reception and within minutes staff were out to bring our luggage from the coach and into the reception area. We had our key card and instructions within minutes and headed for the only lift to the hotel's 2 floors. It's not an issue the lift is modern and will hold up to eight people but possibly less with luggage. The room was at the side of the hotel with the cliff on view through the window. The room was clean and comfortable with dated furnishings but very usable, the bed was extremely comfortable and was perfect for us. The evening meal was table service and the staff were very well organised and had us seated ready for our first meal. The menu for that week was on the table and we were told that this would be our table for our meals for the coming week. The menu was basic but included three options for each, started, Main and Desert. The options varied over the week. Entertainment was available every evening with a singer every night and bingo on all nights other than the first night. Generally the prices at the bar were good with a good choice of drinks available. The hotel dining room and bar area is decorated to a good standard and the floor coverings are well maintained and clean. Toilets are clean and easy to find near the bar and the reception. Breakfast was served at the table and was full English or cereal with porridge being one of the options but you could have cereal and a full English if that's what you want. Tea, Coffee and juice are also available. Rooms are checked every day with towels changed as required. The hotel is a two star but I would think that's a little unfair and could easily be a 3 or even a 4 star. We both have said we would stay here again in the future.

One word. 'disappointing'. Hotel in need of upgrading. Room 212. Bathroom cold, no heating, no hot water. Food not very good, served cold, tasteless and small portions. Staff member rude and unhelpful. Plenty of better hotels on the Island.

The hotels is little dated but the staff are very friendly and helpful. The beds were clean and comfortable but water pressure is low in a lot of rooms effecting the shower. However the food was acceptable and the 4 free drinks per night were great. Entertainment very night with bingo, the singers were ok but one singer was exceptional, his name was Stevie!. He actually works in the kitchen but he was in a different league to the singers they brought into the hotel. He sings all types of music and has a way to fully engage the audience. We would go back again just to listen to Stevie, the hotel should give him a pay rise to keep him there! Ha

Hotel room was very small but cleaned daily. Food is tasty but small portions . Sometimes think we were rushed into eating our meal. Brought hot breakfast food out when still eating cereal. Staff seemed friendly. The hotel is in a good location on the front

I was a bit apprehensive after reading previous reviews, but, in my opinion the hotel was wonderful. Lovely staff who couldn't do enough for you and the food was delicious (and I'm a very picky eater). Of course, it's not a boutique hotel and it is a bit tired and dated but hey hotels have had a bad time of it due to the economy and covid and it did look as though they were updating, slowly but surely. My room was spotless, comfortable bed and although the pillows were a lot flatter than I would normally have, it was no problem to have more supplied if asked for. Entertainment was good. Absolutely nothing to complain about. For what I paid it was excellent value. Those who moan should stay at the modern hotels and pay the extremely high rates they have to pay. All in all I thought the previous reviews were very unfair. Would I go back - in a heartbeat.
