The Brunswick

Beautiful setting, gorgeous decor and extremely clean. Lovely little extra touches, such as board games and fragrances in the WC's. Food delicious, varied and of high quality. Staff welcoming and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble, went above and beyond.

Last visited in 2019. It was family run, and we went for many years. Had many happy stays, and looked forward to meeting the regulars, and the owners, each year. Perfect location on Keat's Green, Shanklin, with the beach below. Large garden, 2 swimming pools, fantastic views of the bay and Culver Cliff. Met people who were staying there last year, and the hotel was full in July. We didn't stay, as they weren't offering dinner at that time.

We booked through *********** At the time offered evening meals with Ramsey trained chef. A week before we arrived asked for cash or bank transfer and the fact the Hotel’s name had changed to The Brunswick. On arrival we were told that there was no evening food available! No dining room. It is now only a bed and breakfast. It is a tired hotel. The rooms we had were clean albeit the furniture is old and needs painting / refreshing. It’s in an excellent location for the quaint Old Town of Shanklin - which is lovely. Offers indoor heated pool and a small outside, non heated pool. Bar area is pleasant. The barman very nice and friendly. Most staff were friendly. Advertise a happy hour but when asked it is only for cocktails or wine. The barman had a week off so no cocktails available as no-one else knew how to do it!! Breakfast: Offers continental and cooked. The food is nice but takes an age to get a cooked breakfast. The young staff didn’t seem able to answer questions - just need some training. If they had said that the food was cooked fresh (which it was) and that there may be a 20-40 minute wait then there would have been no problem. A decent base but not worth the money we paid.

No customer service skills, unorganised, didn’t meet bare minimum. Requests confirmed prior were ignored. Lack of problem solving & willingness. Burger was overpriced & inedible like rubber. GM rude & dismissive. Breakfast - poor limited choice. Mattress springs broken. As hotel was full told to have a few whiskeys to help sleep. Hotel added a topper which didn’t do anything. Onsite parking is limited when hotel is full.

Outstanding friendly staff where nothing is to much trouble. Accommodation is beautiful and comftable. Restaurant and bar clean and very good value. We would recommend the brunswick to any one visiting the isle of Wight. Thank you you for a brilliant stay.

Beautiful hotel, lovely stay. Exceptionally dog friendly & welcoming. We loved our stay at The Brunswick, the staff are absolutely lovely. We had previously had to postpone our stay due to illness, but this was no problem at The Brunswick, who kindly said, just call when you are better. We travelled with our 2 cocker spaniels & were made very welcome, everyone, including other guests were very friendly. Jackie on reception & the new manager are efficient, kind & warm, always asking if everything is alright. In fact all the staff are exceptional. We were very lucky & were given one of the rooms in “The Cottage” with a balcony, lounge area, TV & games table, shared with one other room, we were very impressed with it. The breakfast was very nice, served promptly, the young person serving it even asked if our dogs would like their own sausages… how kind. The garden is gorgeous & it’s nice to sit out there with a drink or 2. Joe the bar man makes the best cocktails I’ve ever tasted. We saw both pools which looked very nice but unfortunately, did not have time to use them. The only problem we had, was that we couldn’t stay for longer… but we’ll be back.

We love The Brunswick. Stayed a few times, never disappointed. This time we had a family room just above reception which was a great location. The NYE was brilliant, our little girl made friends and was completely made welcome by the whole team. We also met so many lovely guests. What a great a**osphere. Food was superb. Bubbles at midnight. Dogs welcome. We used the pool and sauna. Team so friendly. Great breakfast. Late check out was a massive bonus. Much fun had by all. Can't wait to return. Have heard they are booking great entertainment for this year. So we shall be back. X

My family stayed at over New year and we were well looked after by the incredible staff at The Brunswick . Our room had everything we needed for our stay, tea, coffee, water, fresh towels etc. The breakfast was very nice both the full English and Continental. Unfortunately we didn't have time to use their swimming pool but hopefully when we return as I have no hesitation on booking here again.

We had 5 nites including Chris**as Day here. Found our break here so relaxing, friendly, peaceful which was what we wanted after a busy year at home. Roberta and staff so helpful and friendly . Cosy rooms , Chris**as dinner was excellent and so was the daily breakfast. Can’t fault it, my husband suggest perhaps a draft beer would be nice but other than that nothing .
