I’m not sure this meets the criteria of a 5 star hotel in terms of the room I stayed in and the amenities. The price per night was reasonable, given the excellent location. The building itself is impressive and the foyer is beautifully appointed. Staff are friendly and efficient and the check in process was smooth.
The room was on the 24th floor and in need of a facelift. Lots of ‘patching’ was evident in the room. The pillows need replacing, as does the frayed and dated carpet. The bathroom had an old-fashioned weighing scale, which I found pointless. Towels were frayed as well. The lighting needs upgrading, as I noticed unless you close the bathroom door, it is quite dark around the WC.
No coffee machine, which is something I haven’t seen in a while and I’ve stayed in a few 5 star hotels across China over the past few months. Empty mini-bar and if you want to access the movie channel it’ll cost you 38 rmb.
A shower curtain instead of shower doors is always one of my pet hates. Lots of silicone filler around the shower tub as well, which shows me an upgrade is necessary at some point.
Room service is 30 minutes. I ordered a beef burger with fries for 138 rmb. A can of Coke will set you back 25 rmb. I also ordered room service breakfast. The bakery basket was ok but 59 rmb for an ice coffee was a bit excessive.
Will I be back? Given the location was convenient for where I needed to be, maybe. Based on comparison to other hotels downtown? Then no.
