I had a large tatami room with side sitting area and sink as well as an ante-room. I had three delicious Japanese meals at the ryokan that were served with polite elegance. The two in-house onsen baths were a joy to use after a day of skiing. The staff was knowledgeable about how to get around by the buses and suggested the best restaurants for days that I did not eat at the ryokan. Senshinkan Matsuya was situated in the center of.Shibu Onsen town next to three of the public onsen. I could not ask for a better stay!

Just wanna share my experience of staying in this beautiful hotel. 1- The location and the views from the hotel are just amazing! Especially during sunsets! 2- The personal and stuff of the hotel are super super friendly, if I could I would give 10 stars for the hospitality. 3- Onsens and the view are something out from this world 4- What I was really amazed is the kitchen and the chef that is cooking. If you stay in this hotel I highly recommend take the breakfast and dinners. You will have a high class food with a presentation and explanation of each dish by the servant. Best experience 5- Last but not the least I forgot my speaker in the hotel. The stuff brought it back the same day to me to another hotel I moved after NISHIHOPPO. So guys, less words more actions! 10 stars to this amazing hotel and it’s owner. My respect.

Wow! An amazing little Ryoukan in a lovely town with fantastic owners. This ryoukan is a traditional old fashioned style with a lovely private onsen in pictures The room was large and your right on top of one of the 9 onsens. As a ryoukan in the town you will have access to the 9 healing onsens which you can use at your leisure and complete the denyouko towel for blessings The onsen is run by a lovely lady who is really friendly. Typical Amenities included plus free yukata and geta to borrow whilst your walking between hot springs plus free cold milk which is just heavenly after a hot soak. Honestly the cold milk really made my day!! 🥰 Air conditioning was very effective considering the size of the room and the breakfast was too much to finish and offered a taste of everything Lastly you are on top of the onsens as soon as you step out and monkey park is a 25 minute walk north but talk with the Owner, she has a link to the Monkey security cameras so can tell you ahead of time if theres any up there to see currently (i went during Estrus season so no monkeys for me) When it came to checkout the lady gave me a small bento of Onigiri and Pastries and even drove me down to the local station 10/10 would stay again

Our family made a special trip from Tokyo to Nagano, and besides exploring the surrounding attractions, watching the snow monkeys soaking in the hot springs of Nozawa, and visiting the Togakushi Shrine, the highlight of this trip was staying at Issa no Komichi Biyu no Yado. Initially, we had modest expectations, thinking of it as just another experience. However, upon arriving in the snowy Yudanaka Shibu Onsen, we were immediately impressed by the warm and professional hospitality. From the thoughtful reception to the exquisite dinner and the unique public onsen, every aspect exceeded our expectations and left us pleasantly surprised. This wasn’t just a hotel stay—it was an unforgettable journey into the heart of Japanese onsen culture. If you’re planning a trip to Nagano, this is definitely a place worth visiting to experience the perfect blend of hot springs and nature!

Vanaf het moment dat je Kokuya Ryokan binnengaat, wees bereid om de echte wereld achter je te laten en jezelf volledig onder te dompelen in de ervaring. Je ruilt je schoenen bij de deur voor pantoffels en ziet ze pas weer als je weggaat. Je wordt hartelijk ontvangen door het beleefde en zachtaardige personeel, wordt naar je prachtige kamer gebracht en zodra je je traditionele yukata hebt aangetrokken, is het tijd om de ontspanning te laten beginnen. Het meergangendiner zal waarschijnlijk een van de beste maaltijden zijn die je in je leven hebt gehad, met veel ongewone texturen en smaken om te proberen. De futons zijn comfortabel en uw kamer wordt lekker warm gehouden. Er zijn zelfs huidverzorgingsproducten om je tussen het weken in de onsen door verwend en gehydrateerd te houden. Eerlijk gezegd hoef je je koffer niet eens te openen terwijl je daar bent. Het personeel begeleidt u bij aankomst door alle logistieke zaken, maar er zijn enkele dingen die handig kunnen zijn om van tevoren te weten. - De ryokan stuurt om ongeveer 15:00 uur een shuttle naar station Yudanaka om nieuwkomers op te halen, dus plan uw reis zo dat u van dit voordeel kunt profiteren. - De ryokan biedt gasten ook de mogelijkheid om de volgende ochtend direct na het ontbijt een pendeldienst naar het Snow Monkey Park te nemen. - Nadat u de ryokan heeft verlaten, brengen zij uw bagage naar de koffieshop tegenover het station, zodat u zich geen zorgen hoeft te maken over de logistiek. - Treinen van Yudanaka terug naar Nagano vertrekken om 12:30 en 15:30 uur. - De ryokan zelf beschikt over verschillende privé-onsens die je voor 45 minuten kunt reserveren. Omdat de onsens op het terrein staan, kun je ongeacht geslacht samen met je partner of reisgenoten naar binnen. Het is een boetiekhotel, dus u hoeft zich geen zorgen te maken dat u geen toegang krijgt tot alle onsens die u wilt. - De ryokan ligt aan de hoofdweg van de stad Shibu Onsen. Het hotel geeft u een sleutel, zodat u de hoofdweg kunt volgen en een van de openbare onsens kunt bezoeken die u wenst. Maar met zoveel prachtige en meer privé-onsens in het hotel zelf, zult u waarschijnlijk geen tijd of zin hebben voor deze. - Ook is er een koffiezetapparaat op de kamer! (Ik was bang dat ik zonder koffie zou moeten overleven, en dit bleek een ongegronde zorg). We hadden een ongelooflijke en totaal toegeeflijke tijd in Kokuya. Het ervaren van een traditionele ryokan is een voorrecht dat je minstens één keer moet proberen als je kunt. En door de Snow Monkeys toe te voegen, krijgt de reis een dubbel doel, waardoor deze nog veel gedenkwaardiger wordt. Het enige dat de reis beter zou hebben gemaakt, is als we langer hadden mogen blijven hangen bij elke gang van ons diner.

It's a 10 mins walk uphill from train station so maybe better to try to contact them for a complimentary pick up. The place is super grand and 2 onsens. A Instagram worthy one that the males and females get to use it at different timings. The shower stuff in the onsen are mediocre though. No fancy facial stuff for women unlike some other onsens at this price range. We had breakfast and dinner for the 2 nights. And well worth it. But you have to follow a fixed timing and we felt a bit rushed but otherwise it was really great and service perfect. We had one the biggest rooms I believe Room 716. Had a sitting area and also a sleeping area. Easily fits 8 persons. We were only 2. In the day they kept the futons and brought it out at night. Towels changed every night. There is a van that goes straight to Mount Yokoteyama ski resort. The receptionist didn't seem to know about it but you could try to Google. It was a complimentary ride to and fro if you bought the lift tickets. Took only like 30 mins to get there. You can get rentals at hotels there.

Since it was cheaper than other ryokans in the area, I didn’t expect much. But to my surprise, it offered full service—just like the more expensive ryokans I’ve stayed at before! They even provided a pickup service from the train station, which I forgot to book. Luckily, a Western couple sitting next to me on the train had reserved it. When I saw the “Hotel Housei” sign on the van outside the station, I hopped in! The hotel is a bit far from the station and involves walking up and down hills, so carrying luggage all the way would have been quite tough. I was really fortunate to catch that ride! Cherry blossoms were in full bloom along the river, just a few steps from the hotel—such a beautiful sight. The room wasn’t large, but it had enough space and was very comfortable. The elderly gentleman at the front desk seemed to speak multiple languages—he even knew some Thai! He was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The onsen was wonderful. The indoor bath was a bit too hot for me, but the outdoor bath was cooler and more relaxing. Breakfast was a buffet, which was decent. In conclusion, this place was absolutely worth it. Next time, if I go skiing in Shiga Kogen or bring someone to see the snow monkeys, I’ll definitely remember to book the pick-up and drop-off service in advance!

Ik zag veel oudere Japanse stellen, groepen goede vrienden en veel studenten die samen reisden. Het hotel is vrij oud; de airconditioning kraakte, er waren wat muggen en de koelkast was onbetrouwbaar – hij werkte prima op de eerste dag, maar op de t****e dag bevroor hij al het fruit dat we hadden gekocht tot stevige ijsblokken. De netheid was echter acceptabel; je kon zien dat ze er veel moeite voor deden om het schoon te houden. Naast de openbare onsen (warmwaterbronnen) zijn er twee privé-onsen (warmwaterbronnen) die gasten kunnen reserveren. De lounge biedt elke middag gratis oden (Japanse warmwaterbronsoep) aan, wat erg attent is. Het ontbijt is ook goed en uitgebreid. Verder zijn Nagano en Shijiazhuang zustersteden, en tafeltennis is hier erg populair; er zijn tafeltennistafels in de lounge. Het hotel ligt vlakbij station Yudanaka, op twee minuten lopen. Al met al een aanrader.

Easy to go to Giant Ski Area because there is a slope to ski area directly. But I don't recommend for beginner to go ski area from this slope. And you can't go back to the hotel from this way, you have to go back by gondola to Yamanoeki and walk 300m. Too far if you walk with skies or snowboard. Yukata is not free of charge, you have to pay 300 yens for rent. There is a shower room in your room but you can't use it because there is ONLY cold water(hot water doesn't work). Some breakfast menu is not enough for customers. But dinner is ok.

The temperament is very good👌👍! I visited this ”hot spring street” and indeed the price of this ”ape” youth hostel is the most affordable! Attached are the photos taken. It's less than 1,000 Taiwan dollars per person per night! This kind of hot spring hotel is really cheap!
