"*) We stayed here in June 2026 and, overall, had a wonderful experience. The property is stunning, exceptionally well-maintained, and surrounded by beautiful greenery, making it a perfect place to unwind. *) The complimentary Ooty apples, soft drinks stocked in the refrigerator, jackfruit chips, and ample drinking water were thoughtful touches that made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. *) Our room was spacious, beautifully designed, and very comfortable. It included both a private balcony and a sit-out area, allowing us to fully enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding meadows and valleys. Watching clouds drift across the landscape was one of the highlights of our stay. *) The entire property is incredibly photogenic and "Instagram-worthy." The views from the restaurant are particularly spectacular, and the swimming pool was crystal clear and impeccably maintained. *) There are plenty of recreational options available, including outdoor games, swings, nature walks, evening Housie sessions, and several other activities, some complimentary and some paid. *) A common bonfire is lit every evening around 7:00 PM. During rainy weather, it is thoughtfully relocated closer to the reception area so guests can continue to enjoy it. *) The complimentary high tea served at 5:00 PM deserves special mention. After a long journey, it was exactly what we needed on the day of our arrival. The spread was surprisingly extensive, and everything was fresh, flavourful, and well-prepared. My mother still fondly remembers the Mirchi Pakodas and sandwiches served there. *) Breakfast was included in our package and featured an extensive spread with plenty of variety. The food was consistently delicious, and the restaurant staff were efficient, attentive, and quick to clear tables. *) We also tried the dinner buffet and were equally impressed with the quality and variety of dishes on offer. The only area that could use improvement is the dessert section, which would benefit from a wider selection of traditional Indian sweets. *) The hospitality throughout the property was outstanding. Most staff members were warm, courteous, and genuinely eager to help. Requests were handled promptly, and the service contributed significantly to the overall experience. *) Nature lovers will particularly appreciate this property. The lush gardens, abundant birdlife, and peaceful surroundings create a serene atmosphere. Waking up each morning to the sound of birds chirping was incredibly relaxing. *) Guests staying with drivers will be pleased to know that, according to our driver, complimentary accommodation and meals were provided, and he was quite satisfied with both. *) Hotel guests are also entitled to a 10% discount on the buffet, so it is worth asking about this when dining. Areas for Improvement: *) The reception experience was inconsistent. While check-in was efficient, the staff member assisting us seemed unfamiliar with several basic room features. For example, "

"I had a good stay at this hotel. Pros: 1. Staffs are very friendly and courteous 2. Ample amount of parking space 3. Hotel is almost at the top of the hill, due to which you get an amazing view of ooty city 4. Food is awesome 5. They provide every toiletry kit including shaving set 6. Very neat and tidy rooms 7. I stayed at room#124 and this had an amazing view of the helipad and then the ooty city 8. Unlike other hotels, the rooms opening towards the helipad has an extra room for dinner and small party (kind of unexpected but enjoyed a lot) 9. I read some review about being old-fashioned, untidy and damped rooms but let me tell you this, its an old hotel but they have really taken care of it and provided you with everything that you need to have a pleasant stay. Don't go with other reviews, i have visited ooty countless times and stayed in many hotels but this one will give you peace of mind! cons: nothing i noticed or experienced during my stay"

"We hebben van 17 tot 20 mei in Mountain Retreat, Ooty, gebleven en een echt ontspannen en vreedzame ervaring. De hoogtepunten van het verblijf waren het prachtige uitzicht op de Ketty Valley absoluut ademachtig. In een bergstation maakt het kiezen van een bergachtige locatie het verschil, en dit resort is perfect gelegen om u de natuurlijke schoonheid te laten genieten overal. De kamers en het resort waren schoon en goed onderhouden, en het omgeving was rustig en rustig. Het is een ideale plek als u wilt ontspannen, ontkoppelen en gewoon genieten van de natuur zonder de vreugde van te veel activiteiten. Het eten was heerlijk, en het personeel was zeer vriendelijk en handig, toevoeging aan het algemene comfort van de verblijf. Een klein punt om te overwegen: aangezien het resort is gebouwd op een bergsloop, is er een beetje van de parkeerplaats naar de kamers, wat een beetje uitdaging kan zijn voor oudere burgers. "Fantastisch op een heuvel rond de 20 minuten lopen naar de stad (bepaalde dat we een rickshaw terug krijgen). We konden geen eieren voor ontbijt bestellen tot onze tweede ochtend (die ze niet aanbiedden op de eerste ochtend). Cake bij het ontbijt was juist. De badkamer was niet gereinigd bij aankomst en er waren splatters op de muur boven het thee-/koffiegebied. We gingen ook laat op de middag terug om onderhoudswerkzaamheden op ons balkon te vinden - het vond dat dit had kunnen worden gedaan na checkout! Fantastisch. We hebben een nacht gegeten in het restaurant en het eten was zeer goed. De hoge belastingen in Tamil Nadu toegevoegd aan de prijs (bijna 25%) dus denk er aan. Cocktails weee uitstekend. We hebben de ochtend ’hike’ gemaakt, waar we goed voor moesten komen. We hebben een warm waterfles meegebracht op onze tweede nacht, wat een prachtige verrassing was. Thee & biscuits served between 5 & 5.30pm which was a nice touch although more of the breakfast cake would have been good. Ik zou u aanbevelen hier te blijven als kamers, locatie & restaurant zijn uitstekende."

"I paid an average of ₹1,000 per night here, expecting a decent place to rest after a long journey. Instead, I got barely any sleep. For a hostel/dormitory setup, the management is failing at basic crowd control and layout design. A few critical issues that ruined the experience: Terrible Water Dispenser Placement: The water dispenser is located right outside the dorm door. Guests are constantly going in and out to get water, meaning the heavy door is opening and shutting all night long. The noise is constant and makes it impossible to sleep. Couples in the Dorm Room: Dorms are shared spaces for travelers seeking rest, not a cheaper alternative to an OYO room. Couples were being openly intimate in the shared room, which is completely inappropriate, deeply uncomfortable, and highly disruptive for the fellow dorm mates who just want to sleep. Management needs a strict policy against this. Zero Enforcement of Quiet Hours: Dorm guests need to be strictly advised about "silent hours." There is absolutely no discipline here, and people talk or move around loudly without any regard for others. When you travel a long distance, adequate sleep isn't a luxury—it's a necessity. Paying ₹1,000 a night just to stay awake all night due to bad design and zero rules is a terrible experience. I hope the management takes a hard look at their policies."

"Please believe the bad reviews, we have regretted not believing them and booked this property at a crucial time and lost a lot of money. It's run by an elusive owner, very unpleasant and disrespectful about the guests. The property is managed by Amit, again, an extremely irresponsible, inexperienced person. It was our wedding in December, 2023. We booked the entire property for two nights, several months in advance. They knew we were booking it for our families to be in one place, and they also knew it was our wedding. We made the mistake of paying the entire amount in advance. We had no idea that the owners run these quack businesses to cheat people. We reached two days before the wedding day, and they decided to renovate, the entire front porch was broken and being redone. I didn't know what to do, we were two days away from our wedding and urgently needed an alternative. The rooms were smelling of mould and there was mould all over, under the bed, in the bathroom, literally in every room. It was impossible that our families of senior citizens could stay there. The shocking part was the downstairs rooms were smelling of pee and alcohol and I have no words to describe how dirty and unhygienic it was. Ooty has plenty of budget heritage properties and it's difficult to maintain them, we go to Ooty every year multiple times. And, we never stayed at the Red House because of the bad reviews. And, I still can't remember why we made such a bad decision of booking this place, but the mistake was made. We had to paid a huge amount and book a different place for our family last minute. I told Amit to cancel 3 rooms out of 6, and our vendors were accomodated there. Infact even our vendors had to be moved out the second night due to construction dust, unclean drinking water, mould and dirty linen. When we asked for refund (at least of the three rooms we cancelled), Amit agreed, because he knew exactly what he had done. He had so many months to prepare for our arrival, and they did nothing. But, the owners were so cheap, probably they don't have their own money and live off by cheating people, even their neighborhood residents spoke of the owners so badly, that they were very cheap and miserly. And clearly that was the case. I decided to file an FIR, money lost is one thing, but money lost in fraud is different. They decided to return a measly amount, and my husband just wanted the ordeal to end. So I let it go. I won't recommend this place but if you must stay here, you should know the truth and hopefully they learn their lesson through other guests. Lots of excellent properties like Smyrna, Lymond house, manor house etc, where they treat guests as humans, not as dumb tourists to fill their pockets."

"We stayed at this property for 5 days. Our experience was overall wholesome. Pros: excellent views of the hills, peaceful, nice ambience with beautiful flowers and garden, helpful and friendly staff, great food taste in the restaurant. Cons: Location is quite remote from the ooty city centre, hence, finding cabs/auto from and to the hotel gets tricky, the road leading to the hotel for the last 1-2 km if extremely narrow. I personally had a vehicle malfunction while driving the steep, narrow and unpaved road leading to the hotel in the last 200 m. Hence, the hotel must work on paving the road in the last 200 metres. Another issue was the mattress in the rooms; it was extremely uncomfortable and caused lot of back and shoulder pain. I ask the hotel to improve upon the mattress quality."
