We booked here for one night as our holiday rental property was not available until the following day, and we were unable to secure any other accommodation in Lerwick. Superficially, an attractive historic building right on the sea, and a few minutes stroll from Lerwick Town centre. Otherwise I think this place struggles to fill the definition of a hotel. There was no receptionist on our arrival, only a hand written note with a mobile number to call. It was answered at the third attempt, and the staff arrived after about 10 minutes. To be fair, he was polite and courteous, and helped with our luggage, and showed us to our room. The bed was at least clean and comfortable. The hotel has no functioning restaurant, bar, or lounge, and we were advised to use the Grand Hotel for food and drinks, which we were later told by local residents belongs to the same owner. We couldn't ignore the damp and black mould on the walls in our room, a tiny TV which was wall mounted at ceiling level, exposed electrical wires to a trouser press, and wallpaper coming away from the walls behind the reception desk and in the corridors. We were woken the next morning by a fire alarm at 6.15 am, went to reception to be told there was no emergency by the one member of staff available. Fortunately Lerwick has some very welcoming restaurants and cafes. A couple we met on our trip who had also been booked into The Queens, told us they were shown to their room, and the toilet seat was propped up against the sink. They cancelled their booking and managed to secure alternative accommodation for the week. One cafe owner we got chatting to said " we deserved a medal " for staying there, so our experience does not appear to be unique. This place has so much potential given its location, but is either being deliberately run down, or knowingly run extremely poorly on a shoestring. Having been quoted £160 for the on line booking several weeks before, the experience was frankly laughable. Avoid if you have the choice.
