"We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel: it’s a beautiful place, the staff was welcoming, and the food was very good. We even were considering to come back in the future. Unfortunately, on the last day a very unpleasant incident happened that completely changed our impression. I kept my wallet all the time in the safe during the stay. On the morning of departure I took it out before breakfast to make sure I would not forget it. When we returned housekeeping was in the room making the bed and collecting towels even though we were checking out in 20 minutes. This felt weird. Later I realized that $400 had been stolen from my wallet. It’s very disappointing to leave with such a negative experience after otherwise enjoying the hotel. Security and trust are fundamental, and I hope the management will take this seriously. So recommendation to all the guests please keep your belongings in a safe or with you at all time."

"We waren in Zuid-Afrika voor drie weken in verschillende accommodaties en dit hotel was een van de beste we hadden. De inrichting is super nobel en chic. Het personeel is zeer vriendelijk en professioneel. De kamers zijn zeer groot en goed onderhouden en vooral zeer schoon. Dit hotel verdient de 5 sterren in ieder geval! We voelden ons erg goed en we zouden dit hotel zeker verder aanbevelen."

"The owners of this hotel need to give some thought as to what makes a client happy. Our room was very spacious with a lovely view. That is where the compliments end. In extreme wind we had to walk outside to get into our room, despite there being a door inside the hotel leading directly into our suite. We were told by the manager that the door was “ for the staff’s use only to service the room”. The same applied to getting to breakfast. We had to walk outside in the howling wind, through a door that was very difficult to open, only to discover the manager had walked through the house via the kitchen, wind free. There were workmen on a Sunday morning painting around the pool. I decided as it was windy I would use the gym, only to discover a painter inside there too and, as a result, the room had such strong paint fumes it was unusable. There was no cappuccino or lattes available at breakfast, no none dairy options either. On the table there was only cheap table salt, no course salt. The shower had no hand rail or seat and the bath had nowhere to place shampoo or soap. No wonder we had to sign an indemnity at check in. And the hotel is not cheap. With a great location and some sweet staff who serviced our room, it will be a pity if these issues are not resolved. We packed up and left early. Did not see one other guest there. Not surprised."

"Een Guesthouse met zeer vriendelijke mensen, gelegen vlak buiten het centrum en op pakweg 300 meter van het strand. Ruime kamers, sober ingericht en helaas zonder airco. Het is niet super de luxe, maar wel schoon met acceptabele bedden. Ontbijt wat wordt geserveerd is in orde. Parkeren kan voor de deur en het guesthouse heeft een mini zwembad om even in af te koelen. Voordeel is wel dat er wel een paar plekken in het guesthouse zijn om te loungen als je wat comfortabeler wil zitten buiten je kamer. Voordeel is wel dat Hermanus veilig is, met enkele laagbouw locaties."

"Milkwood lodge is a lovely place to stay just outside of the centre of Hermanus. From the moment we arrived Linda was welcoming and friendly. We arrived at the same time as some issues in the town with taxi strikes and Linda tried really hard to find us somewhere to go for dinner, ringing round restaurants for us as most seemed to be closed on our first night! She booked a table for us on our second night there and thankfully we did find somewhere to go for our first night. The cottage we stayed in was very spacious and comfortable, with a lovely big bed in the main bedroom and even our own outside space. The main room had underfloor heating which was really welcome as the weather had turned a bit chilly. The shower in the bathroom was amazing, really good pressure and warm water - it was difficult to get out! There was a pool available but we didn't use it as it was just too cold. Breakfast was included and there was plenty of choice, from cereals and toast and pastry and they made some cooked items that we wanted. The location of the lodge is on the main road in and our of Hermanus and a short drive into the centre of town. I'd definitely recommend staying here."

Evelyn supplied us with excellent recommendations for local restaurants and how to access them. Her staff also cooked a brilliant breakfast including delicious poached eggs. "Wonderful hotel and great location for picking up the walking route into Hermanus. We had a suite which was absolutely incredible, the room had a huge comfy bed and also a large sofa, with a dressing room which then went into a large bathroom. Tea and coffee making facilities and a working fridge with complimentary water. Outside was a good size swimming pool with beds but it was too chilly whilst we were there so didn’t actually go in it. Breakfast was good with a choice of hot and cold food. "
