Toucanet Lodge ★★

"I came to this region along with my husband, brother and sister-in-law primarily to go birding. El Toucanet Lodge was the perfect base for our activities. It is located in the Copey de Dota region surrounded by the mountains of the Los Santos Forest Reserve region of Costa Rica. The scenery is spectacular. It is not a very touristy area. The lodge is in a beautiful location with separate guest rooms tucked into the landscape, providing lots of privacy for each guest. Waking up in the morning and looking out over the spectacular landscape was my favorite thing. The restaurant on the grounds provides a delicious breakfast while you look at hummingbirds and other wildlife. We had dinner most nights there as well. The food was terrific, and portions were generous. Be sure to try the avocado ice cream! It was so good. A short walk up the hill from the lodge, and you can see the majestic and colorful Quetzal and other amazing birds. Our room was very comfortable with a king-sized bed, small kitchen area and great views. Miguel greeted us, arranged anything we needed. He is a terrific host and person."

"The room was clean, the breakfast was good and the service was good. The hotel's own protection area is very large, and the forest trail is very good. There are many gardens and nearby road birds near the hotel reception desk, and the environment is good. The only downside is that the room is far from the hotel reception desk and the restaurant, and it is not convenient for bad legs."

"We travel a lot and found this place not to be acceptable. The room was very small, no desk, no cabinet. We had to move the dress stand to the bathroom in order to create space for our luggage. Coffeemaker is in the bathroom just above the toilet. Dinner was overpriced and disappointing. Will go back to the valley for the Quetzales but definitely will stay in Savegre Hotel. "

"Onze groep stopte hier voor een warm drankje en om de hummingvlees bij de voeders te zien. Zoveel verschillende soorten in een plaats. Ik ben geen vogel maar het was echt leuk om de vogels te zien en de fotografen te kijken. Dit lijkt een cool plek om te blijven."

"We hebben niet goed gemerkt omdat de kamer is klein en is niet van een goed niveau, er zijn luchtlekken overal en het is erg onaangename nacht in de bergen, het is koud met lucht op je hoofd de hele nacht en de kleine verwarming is niet goed Het bed is zeer klein 140 cm is de eerste keer in Costa Rica, moet je een inspanning doen op de kamer. De site is prachtig en zeer goed onderhouden. Het eten en ontbijt zijn uitstekend en verdient een uitstekende Franse chef, we hebben gewaardeerd het mengsel van Costa Rica's en Franse smaak, bravo nogmaals aan de uitstekende chef en zijn team, die dankzij hun vaardigheden zeer terug We hebben Quetzal bewonderd en fotografeerd, onvergetelijke herinneringen, dank aan Oscar."

"Superb hotel ideally located in the middle of the San Gerardo de Dota Valley and still managed by the descendants of the pioneers who "discovered" the valley in the 1950s. We chose this hotel for its proximity to Los Quetzales National Park. Finally, we stayed in the superb San Gerardo de Dota Valley which is home to quetzals all year round thanks to the presence of Guatemalan avocado trees - whose fruits they feed on. The hotel grounds include a garden designed for the many hummingbirds, various hiking trails, some of which are particularly popular with ornithologists, as well as a viewpoint offering a superb panorama of the valley. We went on a quetzal observation outing (among others) with Raul Fernandez Chacon (Whatsapp +***********), grandson of the pioneers who settled in the valley; to be booked directly or through the hotel. Spa equipped with jacuzzis and an impeccable sauna and restaurant."
