Op dat moment dacht ik: “Oké... dit is duidelijk een man van karakter.” Zeker genoeg, nadat ik het hotel al had verlaten, heeft Luis me persoonlijk met een foto van mijn Kindle en een zeer duur paar glazen die ik per ongeluk achterliet. Gelukkig had ik mijn telefoonnummer op de rug van de Kindle (het was helaas de tweede keer dat ik het verloren heb), wat het gemakkelijk maakte om in contact te komen. Geen drama, geen twijfel gewoon eerlijkheid en vriendelijkheid. Dankzij hem (en een vriendelijke gast die de handafdruk helpde), maakte alles veilig terug naar mij. Elke kleine kwestie die iemand ooit met een hotel zou kunnen hebben volledig verdwijnt als je zo behandeld wordt. Luis herstelde mijn geloof in de mensheid, en dat alleen maakt dit een vijfsterren verblijf. Ik zou absoluut terugkomen."

"Blijf hier niet. Dit is een absoluut nachtmerrie. Onze hele groep werd meerdere malen gebeten door bedbugs, en het personeel kon niet minder ze hebben het net afgesloten alsof het niet hun probleem was. De kamer was vervelend, met overal muggen, ook op de pijpen, waardoor het onmogelijk om zich veilig of comfortabel te voelen. Het is duidelijk dat dit hotel niet lang op de juiste wijze gereinigd of onderhouden is. De combinatie van walgelijke omstandigheden, bed bug infestaties, en volledig onverschillig personeel maakt deze plek absoluut gevaarlijk. Vermijd dit hotel tegen alle kosten. Het is niet het risico waard voor uw gezondheid of gezondheid."

"We booked the "Tree Nest" unit at Mar-A-Mar and regretted our decision the moment we saw what was involved just to get to the unit. First, the "driveway" is difficult to navigate. It is very steep and the single designated parking space is small with very little room to back out or turn around. It is made of large cemented river rocks that are uneven and very difficult to walk across Next, the stair cases. The owner promotes the place as a "second level" unit. Technically it is a second level unit but first you must climb two sets of narrow steep stairs with a stair count that is equivalent to going up to a four-story level. We found it impossible to climb those stairs with our luggage. And the thought of having to go up and down such a long and steep span of stairs multiple times during our three-day stay was enough to cause us to cancel on the spot before even going into the unit. But, the owner would not let us cancel and falsely claimed the steep stairs were clearly explained in the listing. Absolutely not true and she doubled down with another false claim that the listing stated people with possible health issues should not rent the unit. My wife and I are very healthy for our age and climb stairs at our own home every day. My problem was with the lack of disclosure about the severity of the stairs and then the false claims by this owner. Since I was getting nowhere with the owner, I contacted Amex to stop the charge. To my surprise, the owner had doubled the original charge with Amex to tune of roughly $1500 dollars. Fortunately Amex came through for us and cancelled the charges completely. Do yourself a favor and avoid the "Tree Nest" unit at the Mar-a-Mar complex. There are so many better places to stay in Santa Teresa."
