Hotels in Bideford

I always try and book a pre Xmas stay somewhere, with my children . I came across Woodford Bridge on a booking site , and it seemed to offer great value for money so I thought why not. There are some positives and negatives which I ll list below. Arrived on a dark and gloomy Tues evening, the roads are not particularly great , potholes galore in the area. In the dark its quite scary roads too, in the middle of nowhere !! Check in was straightforward, nice friendly staff , however I found they have a tendency to talk amongst themselves and leave you waiting for too long before saying ” can I help you ”? Apartment was very clean , modern and warm. Incredibly happy with the size of it. Easy location to the games room for my boys, which they enjoyed very much, the pool table and table tennis. However the lighting is not great around the steps , and also the warning paint on edges of steps have worn off , so I had to be very careful walking back to apt in the dark. Used swimming facilities , nice , clean , quiet . The other facilities looked good . Went to the pub on site one night. Lovely little place , although totally devoid of atmosphere, hopefully better at weekend when live music on. They definitely need something. Prices of wine extortionate 175ml for 7.25 . I had to contact reception as the seal around the oven was coming off, did this in the morning before we went to atlantic village. On our return it was still hanging off, so had to contact reception again. Although I really liked the apt , there are a couple of improvements needed I feel. Firstly I could not find a chopping board or fish slice in the kitchen. As a single female with 2 children I also did nt feel safe as the apts can be accessed by anyone , there needs to be a key card reader on the entrance to the block , not just the apt door. Overall , it was a nice enough stay but I Don t think we d return. Probably much nicer in the Summer , and more going on in the area

Our stay at the Royal was just what we hoped for after a very long day travelling. Our room and meal at 62 The Bank and breakfast were all excellent and we will definitely stay again if we are ever in Barnstaple. Thanks again and see you soon hopefully Rob and Margaret

We always stay at this comfortable and very friendly historical hotel by the river in Bideford. The staff are lovely and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them. The food is very good and everywhere is spotlessly clean. There seems to be a quietly ongoing programme of refurbishment with the restaurant and Palm Court room being recently completed to a high standard. We have stayed here in all seasons now and can say it’s warm and cosy even in February. The hotel’s own car parks are also very convenient and the same goes for the lift within the hotel. The hotel’s history, dating back in parts from 1688, is quirky and fascinating with a particular feature being the first floor Charles Kingsley lounge where we like relaxing with a drink or afternoon tea. Another highlight of our stays is to hear more historical detail about this characterful old hotel from Steve and Dee, the friendly housekeepers, and for us this really does add to the all-round enjoyable experience of staying here.

Having stayed in this hotel every week for the last 3 months I’ve got to know it pretty well. I could talk about the spotless rooms with comfy beds and fluffy pillows, the delicious food served daily (the gluten free Pavlova is my favourite ☺️), the pool/sauna/gym facilities and the gaming room, all of which are 1st class. But, this hotels best asset is it staff. I have never met a more friendly, attentive and professional staff like I have here. Brend Group, what ever you are paying them, it’s not enough. 😜 Working away from home is hard, very hard, but staying in a hotel like this, the way you’re treated from day one, like your part of the family, makes it a wee bit easier. From the reception, the health club, the bar and the restraunt staff nothing is an issue for them. I know it’s their job but it’s done with a smile. Every time. 😊 I’ve meet friends for life here, too many to mention, but you know who you are. I will miss you all when my time is up. 🥹 Thank you for making my stay here so enjoyable.
