The hotel is located in the most bustling town in the Lake District, with plenty of shops and businesses. It's about a 5-6 minute walk to the lakeside pier. I booked a king room and a quad room. The quad room was in the building with the spa, and there was a bar downstairs. It felt a bit cramped for four people, and the bathroom was extremely small, plus there was only one. The king room in the main building where you check in was quite good. We stayed for two nights, and the breakfast was excellent with a good variety of fruits, allowing us to enjoy a leisurely time.

Everything was perfect. I wanted a homely bed for the night and this filled that. Lovely welcome and more breakfast than I could eat! Actually much nicer than I expected which is always a win

Rum Doodle, well it was our first time at The Lakes and it certainly won't be our last! The location was just right with being part way between Windermere town and Bowness and was walkable to both. There were plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in walking distance as well as lake Windermere itself. We found Rum Doodle with ease and was greeted at the door with a smile and friendly man (the owner but didn't catch his name). We were bought a fresh glass of apple and orange juice to our room which was refreshing after a long drive to Windermere. Our room was comfy, not too big or too small, a wardrobe, seating in the bay window, hairdryer, hot drink making facilities, wine glasses with cork screw and bottle opener. Very modern, clean and well presented bathroom with soft and fluffy towels, and a really nice shower. The bed was very comfortable and welcomed after a busy day exploring the surrounding area. Breakfast was really good with cereal, fresh fruit and yogurt, toast, and then a choice of breakfast which were great too. We had a pleasant and informative chat at breakfast with the lady that works there who gave us the heads up on some driving routes to try and avoid which was really useful. After a day out exploring we went back to Rum Doodle to a cleaned room and freshly made bed with the tea and coffee replenished, so we were able to just drop and the bed with a nice cuppa and biscuit. Then out for a walk, some lovely food and a couple of drinks. We couldn't recommend The Lakes and Rum Doodle enough! Well worth every penny

The location is suitable for us as the hotel is situated within walking distance to the town center and the pier, therefore it is easy for us to access restaurants, supermarket and taking ferry for the lake cruise. There is a bus stop right opposite from the hotel which is convenient to pick up a bus to travel to other towns as well. We received a very clear check in / check out WhatsApp message, although it is just self check-in and use key safe to access to your room, we have encountered no problems. We didn't meet any staff in person during the whole stay, however, the staff is very helpful by responding to WhatsApp message very promptly. The room is clean and spacious but a small shower room with steps separated from another room with sink and toilet may not be suitable for everyone. The breakfast room with limited seating provides basic breakfast options e.g. boiled egg, apple, cereal, bread, butter, jam, milk, juice, tea and coffee. As the car park space is not sufficient for all guest rooms, we arrived the hotel as early as possible to ensure to get a parking space. There is no room cleaning service during our 3 nights stay but you can pickup toilet rolls, tea bags or coffee in the breakfast room if needed.

We checked in late night, witn a car. The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. Room is as described. Heating was cranked up which we appreciated, but also had windows we could open. Great doorway location to the rest of the lake district. Very happy with our 1 night stay.

I have grave misgivings about hotels in the busiest parts of the Lake District, especially at holiday times. Obviously they will be relentlessly overcrowded, with harassed and unfriendly staff. I’ve wanted to go back to the Proper Lake District for a while though so took a risk on the King’s Head. It’s easy to find on the ear popping main road up from Grasmere, just beyond the impressive hulk of Steel Fell, close to Thirlemere. Parking anywhere in the Lakes is hideous and expensive. Not here. Relaxed and plenty of room. It’s a long building with a pleasant bar restaurant area and beer garden. I found a rather pleasant residents lounge where a lady called Jo checked me in and made me feel welcome. It does get busy with passing trade but the staff look after their residents. They flogged me decent real ale and Jura whisky (the proper stuff). Breakfast is briskly table served from a menu and is well presented. I didn’t eat otherwise there but the food is popular and well priced. The road outside is busy and a bit of a racetrack, and the occasional fighter jet roars between the mountains on low altitude practice, but the relentless bleating of the sheep opposite soon returns things to normal. I was a little sorry to depart, but the manager said he hoped I would come again. I believe I will, and will even bring my wife.

The entrance was separate from the restaurant, more like a hotel, and I waited in the lobby, but there was no one around. There was an emergency number listed, but no regular doorbell. When I peeked into the restaurant, they told me to wait two minutes, but I ended up waiting much longer. At first, I was annoyed because they seemed to have completely forgotten about me and didn't apologize, but then I realized their constant smiling and talking was their way of showing sincerity. For breakfast, there weren't many people early on, and they even offered to take my picture. You could choose your breakfast, and I was always happy with the English breakfast. The room was a good size and even had a bathtub. I was also pleased that the tea set included not just tea but also hot chocolate.

I'm originally from Kendal, but now live overseas. I stayed here to visit family locally and thought I'd treat myself to a nice hotel after not being back for several years. This place was NOT a treat. On checking in, the reception staff member asked me to pay for my stay (obviously I'd already prepaid on trip.com). When I pointed this out, she became quite rude. We were put in the room right next to the office, and we could hear the staff chatting at all hours. The noise in the corridor from other guests woke us up several times during the night (despite the ”Quiet” signage). There was a fire alarm at 6am the next morning. Everyone had to evacuate for a good 45 mins in the rain while we waited for the fire brigade...not even an offer of a free breakfast or coffee or anything afterwards. There's no air con in the rooms, they're really small, the bathroom is tiny and there's not a lot of room to put your stuff. The à la carte restaurant is overpriced and the food was under/overcooked (how can you not know how to cook a potato?). Personally I'd not recommend this hotel when there's a Premier Inn in town...

We booked the Superior Double Room and I felt it was well worth the extra for the gorgeous view we had from 2 large windows - whether the skies were sunny or cloudy. The location was excellent - within 5 to 10mins walk to the town and to Derwent Water and parking was well explained and ample. On entering Fellpack House, it was pleasant, well cared for and inviting. Our room on the top floor (stairs all the way up) was straight out of a home & decor magazine. The amenities, furnishing, towels and beverages were quality stuff and we saw that they also used locally sourced soaps and beverages. Housekeeping was daily and I loved that the gave us delicious chewy chocolate chip cookies each day! The breakfast was fresh & flavourful. That they started off as a restaurant (that operates across the road and is highly rated) carries through in their breakfast - I ate so much and it was worth every calorie! Best of all were the staff. We met many over the course of our stay and every one of them were warm, chatty, highly customer-oriented and witty! Can you tell how much I loved our stay there 😀

1. The location of the hotel is very good. It takes only 10 minutes to walk to the cruise ship terminal. There are many restaurants nearby and the accommodation is very convenient. The room is large and there is a living room, unexpected, but the living room side is on the bedside, next to the street, sooner or later, some noisy, especially the UK speed is generally faster, pay attention to it. Breakfast is prepared in advance bread yogurt cereal milk, some in the refrigerator, some in the locker, do not have too much expectations. 2. If you come by car, you will need a parking card with the front desk, which costs £3 a day. There are unlimited parking. There are several places to park. It is actually very convenient. When you leave, you can go to the parking lot to drive first, and put the key and parking card at the front desk when you come back.
