This is one of the most tragic places in recent human history. After the German army was attacked in the centre of Rome during World War II, the Nazi commander of Rome decided to retaliate and kill 10 Italians. The execution took place in an abandoned ash quarry on the outskirts of Rome, very close to the underground grave.

This is a Nazi killing ground, making the cave hidden between the green trees look a little ruthless. Nearly 350 Romans were executed in more concealed locations, and now flowers are the best way to mourn.
