St. John's fortress was originally a Portuguese chapel built in memory of St. John the Baptist. The Dutch rebuilt it as a fortress in the 18th century, making it an important fortress to defend the ancient city of Malacca. Only a few ruins, broken walls and fortresses remain to this day.
This castle, built by Portuguese colonists, has a history of at least 500 years. Great geographical discoveries in the West caused Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands to rush into the Indian Ocean and the Malay Peninsula. A lot of relics have been left.
The biggest disadvantage of St. John's Castle is that it is located outside the heritage area, but there is no public transport, unless you drive or take a taxi yourself. From the fortress, it is the patron saint and guardian of the Netherlands. Malacca is Malaysia's oldest state, and it is easy to find historical sites.
