We are spending several weekends in the area over the month of September and October this year and trying different hotels as we get the lay of the land. This is our third, and pretty much tied with the Tarzana Inn down the street for pricing.for the price we were not expecting Hilton or Marriott experience, and this review reflects that as we consider this a budget level hotel and want to make it clear that we take that into account in the rating. This facility has kind of a fun and funky appearance and is a face-lifted much older property on the exterior. The lobby is currently closed and you are asked to check in at the thickly glassed night window in broad daylight. At checkin we were told our King room had been overbooked but they could put us in a double. This ended up being two queen beds which was fine.. Little has been done to the outside, but the room we had was was nicely updated and matched the pics submitted by other users. Beds and pillows we found to be very comfortable, and the room was well stocked with coffee, fridge, iron, microwave, and blow-dry as well as a magnifying mirror. For sake of curiosity we tried the takeaway breakfast which was a water, a juice, a Danish, a granola bar, and a pudding. We thought it a decent effort on their part. Staff at checkin and checkout were attentive and friendly, and although working through the one window, they made effort to help the next guest before I was done with checkin. Up to this point the place is performing well, but now here comes the cons leading up to our final score. It is located directly adjacent to the 101 freeway and despite being a heavy sleeper I was awoken several times through the night by racing engines. Two car alarms went off in the night and there were wafts of ********* from outside the room that was definitely on property as I bumped into.one of the smokers in the morning enjoying a mid morning joint outside his room. We also both noticed that the floor of the room was clearly in need of a vacuuming. In a carpeted room it might not have been noticeable, but on the hard floors here, the little bits of dirt, grass and other crud were pretty noticeable in multiple locations. So between the noise level, the cleanliness, and the ****, we just couldn't go with a four here. Our experience down the street with a similarly priced hotel was better for room cleanliness and noise. It had hard floors too by the way. Would I stay here again? I wouldn't avoid it, but I don't think this would be my first choice. Wife and I were split a bit. Wife initially liked this property better than the comparable down the street, but I was the opposite.
