Jammer genoeg zijn er een aantal zaken voorgevallen die ons verblijf uiterst onaangenaam gemaakt hebben. Eerst en vooral konden we bij aankomst om 16u nog niet inchecken omdat de kamer nog niet klaar was. Dit was nochtans zo vermeld tijdens de reservatie. In plaats van ons bijvoorbeeld een drankje aan te bieden tijdens het wachten (zoals dit in de meeste hotels gebeurt), werden we geadviseerd om te gaan wandelen in het centrum van Vézelay bij temperaturen van 35 graden en in de volle zon. De twee drankjes die we nuttigden op het terras werden ons niet aangeboden. Om 17u15 konden we eindelijk inchecken. Ondanks dat we bij de reservering uitdrukkelijk vroegen om een kamer op de laagste verdieping (mijn vriendin heeft hoogtevrees), kregen we een kamer op de t****e verdieping. Meteen viel het ons op dat de kamer verstikkend warm was. Toen we probeerden om de airco op te zetten, werkte deze niet. Toen we dit doorgaven aan de receptie, zei men dat de airco kapot was en dat deze zeker niet meer gemaakt zou kunnen worden die dag zelf. Als gevolg hiervan was het ondragelijk warm in de hotelkamer die nacht en hebben we niet kunnen slapen. Omwille van het ontbreken van een koelkast op de kamer was het aangeboden water al warm toen we ervan wouden drinken en konden we onze eigen spullen niet koel houden. Iets anders wat onze aandacht trok in de kamer was het onophoudelijk lawaai van het toilet. Voortdurend bleef deze doorlopen. Zelfs met een gesloten badkamerdeur was het geluid storend. Toen we de volgende ochtend uitcheckten, hebben we al deze zaken doorgegeven aan de receptionist met de vraag om een geste te doen van het hotel uit, maar hij kon niets doen hieraan want de directie was niet aanwezig. We vroegen hem om dit door te geven aan de directie en om ons op te contacteren wanneer dit mogelijk was. Dit hebben we uiteindelijk meerdere keren moeten doen, tot er eindelijk reactie kwam. Deze was zeer teleurstellend: zij konden er zelf niets aan doen en over een compensatie werd zelfs niet gesproken. Samengevat was het dus een zeer onaangenaam verblijf. We betreuren dit ten zeerste, en zeker gezien de zeer hoge prijs die we betaalden (€ 179,05 en hier zat niet eens ontbijt bij). We boekten deze kamer met als belangrijke reden de airco en de check-in om 16u, maar uiteindelijk kregen we niet waarvoor we betaalden. Absoluut te vermijden dus!

room was located in an adjacent building and accessed by going out and passing the court behind the hotel. It was marketed as a junior suite. In the reality, it was a relatively large, not at all cosy a three star bedroom with a cheap sofa bed for family use, and had nothing to do with the photo on the website. The gloomy character of the room was increased by the two very small windows and a tile floor without rugs, not even next to the bed (slippers were provided). I’ve of course not seen the other rooms in this part of the hotel but I would stongly recommend to avoid rooms 401 - 413.

Fabulous hotel with a couple of caveats.... Beautiful public spaces and lovely rooms. First experience when attempting to check in a couple of hours early or at least drop our luggage was met with a dismissive attitude by male front desk clerk whose name we did not get. Take this hotel at its word that check in is at 4pm and not a moment earlier.... Also there are only 4 parking spaces at the hotel which you need to reserve in advance.
When we did check in around 5pm, we were warmly greeted by Laurente, who was friendly and very helpful with things to do near Vezelay for our next day. We ate at L'Eternal in the the hotel that evening and it was fantastic! The service and food were truly delightful!
Also the service at the bar was fantastic. This is truly a very very lovely hotel and we would highly recommend it!

Extremely helpful front desk. We arrived just in time to check in. So we saw our room immediately. Nicely modern, up to date bathroom and a very comfortable bed. This room, 104, has a private terrace. Great for your morning coffee. It is difficult to get reservations in the restaurant . You need to call well ahead. We ate elsewhere and there plenty of good choices. Breakfast has plenty of choices.

Obviously this building has undergone many changes and adaptations over the years, so one can't expect things to be as in a modern purpose built hotel. That being said I had an excellent 4 night stay in a room on the top floor overlooking the square. All functioned well and one is provided with kettle/coffee/tea/2 bottles of mineral water daily. In spite of the main road passing in front of the hotel the traffic at night is minimal. Breakfasts and the Michelin restaurant are rather dear but there are possibilities to eat elsewhere in the village but a reservation would be advised. For those travelling by public transport the bus stops are outside the hotel as well as the letter box. (There isn't one at the post office, due to terrorist fears). For car travellers I would recommend reserving a parking spot, for which they charge not by the day but by the night. All the staff I had dealing with were most helpful, friendly and efficient. They even allow you to speak French!

You need to be aware that this place is on the main road which is a major lorry route. The road goes up hill in front then wraps round behind downhill. There is single glazing only so no chance of any sleep. The room which was “superior” was so basic. The air conditioner unit broke about 11pm, but even when turned off continued to make terrible noises all night. There is no reception at night so there is nothing you can do. When looking for someone around midnight I found the huge double window a ground level left wide open so anyone could have walked in. We had booked for 4 nights but had to leave after one night (they charged us for two nights). They did get an engineer in promptly for the air conditioning unit in the morning, when he came he seemed to imply that this was not a rare problem. We asked if they might offer us a breakfast on the house as a gesture of apology but they declined. The hotel is over priced as it is in Vezelay which is rated as one the the prettiest villages in the area, while in is ok offers very little. Be aware that the all the towns restaurants including this hotel are closed on Tuesdays so you can’t eat anywhere

Great location to visit this lovely small town. Stayed 2 nights in a lovely room with a balcony. Staff was very helpful and made our dinner reservation at the "White Horse" which is nearby with excellent food. I asked my travel agent to book a "small boutique hotel" so was surprised when a tour bus dropped off a very large and very loud tour group. Travel agent issue but don't expect a quiet hotel filled with couples or families. Breakfast was a bit of a letdown after all the lovely breakfasts we enjoyed during our prior two weeks in France.
