The Harbour House Sea Front Hotel

Staff were friendly enough until we had a problem in the room. Tv not working and the manager asks” are you going to be annoyed if this doesn’t work” not quite what we expected to hear on our first visit ended up having to fix it ourselves

We visited the Harbour House Hotel on 2 occasions. First on 24th April for an overnight stay on our way to Cairnryan. We stayed in room 4 and had a lovely stay. The room was lovely overlooking the harbour, and our food, both dinner and breakfast were very nice. We returned again on Saturday 4th May for an overnight stay on our way back. This time we were in room 7 right up in The attic. The room was small. The bed was awful. It was two single beds pushed together. It was broken. One side had a board the whole length of it, and the other had 3 wooden boards to hold it together. The mattress was thin, stained and uncomfortable. We complained to the young staff member who was very apologetic but unable to do anything about it. I have included photos below so everyone can see just how bad this was. I have read the other reviews and wish I had paid more attention to them. It is unacceptable that they can use this room I contacted the manager / owner who was unwilling to accept the issues that we found. He was rude and defensive. He offered me a £25 “gesture” which was extremely offensive. All I wanted was for him to take ownership of the issues I raised and agree that they were unacceptable. We will never return and I urge others to listen to this genuine review.

Nice enough staff but and hotel a bit jaded , unfortunately the cooked breakfast was sent back to the kitchen as it was swimming in cooking oil ,awful overcooked thin bacon very thin ,just a total let down ,I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and this breakfast scored 2/10

Great location for catching the ferry at Cairnryan. We enjoyed the town itself which is very sweet and the hotel is well located. The staff were friendly, room huge and clean and overall it was comfortable. The overall appearance of the hotel was shabby, lifting floors in the bar and what appeared to be paint on carpets. The food was just OK. Gigantic portions. The hotel and bar are Dog friendly which was a bonus. Overall, a very inexpensive stay and at the price you can't complain. I would stay for an overnight but not for longer.

Evening meal at the Harbour House was excellent. Friendly staff, great menu, hard to choose. Often called in for coffee or a beer whilst visiting family nearby but this was the first time for an evening meal and was not disappointed. Highly Recommend.

We stayed at the harbour house on Friday the 15th until Sunday in the lighthouse view apartment. I was a really nice stay and spotlessly clean. Only thing was the living room radiator and bathroom radiator weren't working un reception apologised but could do nothing until Monday. Also the two lamps and shaving mirror weren't working. Minor faults that can be easily replaced. The food was ok and the staff were lovely and friendly. Another bugbear was the price of alcohol. £25 .50 for 2 Tennents and 2 gins. The pub next door was £6 cheaper for the same drinks. Apart from that everything else was OK and we will return.

Lovely room with everything we needed, no freezer in the kitchen area otherwise a very lovely friendly place to stay

Had a lovely relaxing 2 night stay. Staff lovely, food nice. Could definitely do with a refurb or at least a good spring clean. Had a great Saturday night, good duo on, had the pub dancing and singing. Portpatrick is a beautiful place with a fantastic coastal walk. The only downside to this little gem of a hotel is the cleanliness isn't up to scratch, would we come again, probably due to the location and friendly staff.

I ordered from the early bird menu, for my starter I got mushroom bruschetta which was mushroom on a slice of white bread that was very very soggy, I'm not sure they understand what bruschetta is. For my main I had fish and chips, my batter was soggy, my fish was like rubber and my chips were raw. I asked for a refund and they refused and said I need to order another meal, after my family had eaten. We had empty plates sat on our table for 30 minutes, so having yound children this wasn't ideal so I cleared the table, and the young man behind the bar had a go at me for clearing my own table and told me to stop, while he was on his phone. And juat to top it off they served all the adults food first, meaning the children were hungry, complaining and eating our food. Overall very rude staff, very poor food and the whole place was filthy and dated. On a positive my brother and sister who both ordered the HH burger said they were lovely.
