2-Starhotels in Phuket

My initial thought on this accommodation business is in some ways positive. If it is viewed purely as a 'hostel' with an associated coffee shop, then it definitely has attributes (and I'll come back to those later). But if taken at face value on the basis of its tariff cost and amenities, both real and indicated, then there are several problems with it. The first is the way the premises is represented on the Trip com platform. Photographs of the double bedroom include one of a bathroom. The attached text description and its context makes the plain implication that the room has an ensuite bathroom, which it does not. If little scrutiny is applied when reading the description, this fact will escape the readers attention. Anyone looking to make a reservation quickly can easily be misled (inadvertently?) into believing that this is a 'hotel' style room. Many hostels do offer rooms with ensuite bathrooms after all. The bathroom is communal and is inconveniently located on the ground floor. Rooms are above this. A second related criticism is the room size description - 18 m sq is quoted. The room has dimensions of 3 x 3.5 m. That is, about 10 m sq ! Although late February is still peak season in Phuket, it has to be said that the room tariff of almost $60 AUD per night is exorbitant. It may be considered acceptable for a 18 m sq hotel style room, given the circumstances, but a room of this kind at this particular locality ought to be offered at a lower price. Having said this, I concede that the reservation was made late and in haste. Now onto the good things. The 10 m sq double bed room has old but high quality wooden furniture which serves its purpose well. The air conditioning is responsive and strong There is a large kitchen next to the bathroom/wash basin (trough). It's equipped with a large fridge, sink, cutlery etc as well as a coffee maker ( + ground coffee). A delicious banana cake was offered to guests. Clothes can be washed and dried via a coin operated machine. Other attributes include the woman owner/ manager who has a professional approach and an attitude very well suited to the hospitalality jndustry. The coffee shop also makes decent coffees and ham n cheese croissants.

********* the Burmese woman made the stay unpleasant and uncomfortable for myself and multiple other guests. @Owner, consider replacing this employee with a Thai person who has customer service skills. Promote someone in the group that comes in to cook breakfast and clean. Cleaning should be prioritized to a higher degree - the floors and bathrooms are cleaned once per day. There is black mold growing from standing water in the second floor bathroom. This place has potential to be great, but lack of management has it going downhill quick.

Even if it ended with a nice gesture, the receptionist handing me a keychain gift (not sure if they do that with all guests), with a written request to leave 10/10 review, sadly I couldn't ignore the shortcomings of this hostel that seemed like just a downgraded version of Marco Polo Poshtel (not sure which one came first, but from breakfast to ”funny” wall messages, there was a similar ”creative” signature). While I was initially attracted by reviews mentioning hostel's cleanliness, I couldn't say I shared the same opinion. Certain public areas were quite messy. The staircase to the first floor (where shoes are forbidden) didnt seem to be cleaned for some time. In the showers (which had a good water pressure), there was mold. None of the three handsoap dispensers in the only bathroom had soap in them. It just felt the staff doesnt have time or organizational skills to maintain everything in working order. But I was mostly surprised by finding a not clean (i dont want to call it ”used”) bed cover in my bed. It had some fresh stains, hair and crumbles (well, not just on bed cover), and seemed just to be folded after the guest before me (even the folding seemed messed up, so i really thought maybe the bed was forgotten). When I asked the housekeeping to change it, they initially approved. The younger housekeeper started changing everything, sheet included (which i believe is a good way to do it, when it is not certain if the bed was completely changed), but when the older one returned, she made her put the sheet back (the sheet that was thrown on the floor in the meantime), laughing all along. No, that wasnt really funny. Then instead of letting the young housekeeper put on the new bed cover she brought along, i noticed that the older one brought something that seemed to be the same old bed cover that i complained about (the duvet was already inside). When i asked if that is a new thing, she was convincing me it was. Already at that moment, i felt ridiculed. But i said, ”okay, if you say so.” After all was done, i came back to my bed, unfolded the bed cover and confirmed my doubt - all this performance of changing the bed, without them changing anything! The only difference was that the bedsheet was also on the floor in the meantime. This got me really frustrated, mostly because they lied to my face (what for?), and mostly because they invested energy in ”changing” everything while actually just stripping everything off and returning it (why? It takes the same amount of energy to do it for real). Feeling like an *****, i asked what seemed to be the problem? Dont they have clean bedding, or what? But they had. I asked them to give it to me then, and i would happily prepare the bed myself. Which they accepted. Lol. I dont know, with that poor breakfast, the visual mess, unpleasant ”toilet” scent at hostel entrance, and generally low level of cleanliness (you can see how yellow the pillow is once you remove the pillow case yourself), it felt that other reviews mentioning spotless hygiene were misleading. Or were my standards too high? In any case, i stayed in a dozen of Phuket hostels during my month here, but none of them tried to insult my intelligence. There are better places, and no, Dorm Hostel sadly doesnt deserve 10/10, to quote the request they tell everyone at check-out. I also tried to leave them space for hostel improvement, so instead of lowest marks, i left average ones, even if the experience was truly below average. P.S. When a guest asks whether a ferry with a pick-up operates everywhere in Phuket, a genuinely helpful answer would be ”yes”. And not ”no, it's only our hostel's pickup”. I understand everyone just tries to earn money, but it shouldn't be done by misleading guests who just trustfully ask for information.

De kamer is mooi en schoon. De service is goed. Het ligt in het stadscentrum en is handig voor op reis. Ik zou echter graag zien dat de tv verbeterd wordt. Soms is er geen signaal. Ik zou graag zien dat de tv overschakelt naar digitale tv.

Dit was mijn terugkeer naar dit hostel en ik moet zeggen dat ik teleurgesteld was. De vorige keer, op een ander platform, gaf ik het een 8/10, maar nu denk ik dat ik te genereus was. Naast het glimlachende, maar niet goed Engels sprekende personeel (en glimlachen lost problemen niet altijd op zoals een geïnformeerde actie), en de betaalbare prijs, was het moeilijk om al die voordelen te vinden waarvan ik dacht dat dit hostel ze had. De warmwaterdispenser werkte niet, maar zelfs koud drinkwater was niet beschikbaar - ik moest het personeel 3 keer vragen of iemand de machine kon bijvullen. Maar de volgende ochtend was het weer leeg - er zou een systeem moeten zijn en niet rekenen op gasten die het personeel achterna zitten om het te repareren wanneer de watertank leeg is. Ik zeg achterna zitten omdat er zelden iemand bij de receptie is. Ze zijn misschien de kamers aan het schoonmaken (veel succes met het vinden ervan), maar eerlijk gezegd waren de kamers niet zo schoon. Vloeren baden om gedweild te worden, stof in de badkamerventilator wilde ook weg... er zat zelfs een duidelijk zichtbare vlek op mijn laken toen ik incheckte, maar het personeel verving het laken onmiddellijk (ze hadden het misschien kunnen zien toen ze het bed de eerste keer opmaakten? De kluis werkte niet, dus het personeelslid moest een mes gebruiken om het te laten werken. De andere opbergruimte zat ook vol met wat kruimels, ik neem aan dat het niet vaak op de schoonmaaklijst staat. De airconditioning in de kamer leek niet goed te werken. Er was altijd een gevoel dat de temperatuur te koud was, of de thermostaat nu op 18 of 25 graden Celsius stond, je vroor zelfs onder de deken. Privacygordijnen zijn nog steeds transparant (?), en de deuren van de kamer sluiten luidruchtig. De douche was meer een miezerregen - de waterdruk voldeed niet aan de basisvereisten. In de eerste douche was het niet eens warm. Ik stapte de t****e in, waar de verwarming beter werkte, maar je kon niet douchen met water dat praktisch alleen maar op je druppelde. Over het algemeen zijn er andere hostels in Phuket die vergelijkbaar geprijsd zijn en een betere service bieden.

Het bedienend personeel is zeer goed, geeft goed advies en beschikt over volledige informatie. De accommodatie ligt vlak bij het oude stadsgedeelte, handig om te reizen, dicht bij 7-11, vlakbij de Songthaew-terminal als u naar verschillende stranden gaat. Voor mensen die geen auto hebben. Je kunt er comfortabel rondlopen. Het ligt ook vlakbij een voedselbron. Maar er kan wat lawaai zijn van rijdende auto's. Omdat het dicht bij de markt en naast de weg ligt, maar erg handig en goedkoop.

Staff look a bit shy and quiet. Booked a Family Room with 3 beds and got room 6 on 2nd floor next to the stairs. Direct beach and restaurant are at the back of the resort. At night they and resorts nearby have dinner tables so the beach is lit and lively. Early in the morning they don’t set up yet so it’s very good to walk, run and exercise there. They’re having a renovation. Room 6 had very strong paint smell. Water faucets are usable so they don’t change yet. Hose spray for toilet is on the right and you will twist your body to hang it on the left. Coffee making table, clothes cabinet and safe box are inside the bathroom with walls to separate. Drain hole is near the wall of the toilet so when we shower, the toilet room is wet too. Wall mount shower gel and shampoo. Bring your tooth brush set as most places in Thailand don’t give. Water drains slow a bit but not clogged. Other rooms on ground floor are being renovated also. It’s a small resort in the shape of a town house and they have a small lane to walk to the beach. Next to that lane are 3 or 4 guest rooms on ground floor. If you need the best room, it’s on 2nd floor at the end and you have 2 large beds, a separate large room with microwave, table with 4 chairs at the balcony overlooking the beach. Other guests can walk to this balcony too. View is the sea and the roof of the beach front restaurant. Room 6 has a table & 2 chairs outside the room so when you smoke and eat, expect to see other guests walking pass. Tops convenience store is on the other side of the street. Many shops, restaurants and food stalls on this street. The resort is at the end of this small beach town & next to the National Park. Walking about 30 minutes towards the park direction, we saw a tiny coral islet and we crossed the coral underwater way from main beach to that islet. Wear aqua shoes as it’s impossible to walk with bare feet. Water level is around waist line. The main beach has a strip of sand running towards that tiny islet and the other side has high sand. Very beautiful sunset. If you want to do that, go before 4pm because when it’s dark (after 6pm, mid October), there is almost no light in that zone and water starts to raise higher which means it’s more difficult to walk back from the tiny islet. The walk is short with strong waves. Water is warm.

Het is zo moeilijk om een ​​hotel in Phuket te kiezen. Gedurende deze 4 dagen verbleef ik de eerste nacht in een slecht hotel. Ik besloot de volgende dag over te stappen naar een ander hotel. Ik was tevreden met dit hotel, dus verlengde ik mijn reservering nog een nacht, en de hoofdprijs was ook kosteneffectiever. De locatie van het hotel is zeer goed. De afrit ligt direct aan de kust. Er zijn 2.711 winkels binnen 200 meter. Er is ook een avondmarkt met kraampjes voor late night snacks. Het hotel zou gerenoveerd moeten worden, de kamers zijn erg nieuw, het sanitair is ouder, maar ze zijn erg schoon. Het servicepersoneel is ook erg goed. Als we communicatie nodig hebben, helpen ze ons om het voor elkaar te krijgen. Daarnaast is er op het kruispunt een afvalinzamelpunt. Overdag stinkt het wel een beetje bij het in- en uitstappen, maar het heeft geen invloed op de kamer.

Located between two bars, the door has the Sundiva logo on it to help guide you. I think most people who come to Sundiva have trouble finding it because of its small entrance, but it gets wider once you go inside. Great place overall!

Uitstekend hostel, heel dicht bij de oude stad, goede kamers, verlichtingsaansluitingen voor elk bed, handdoeken zijn aanwezig, er is een grote ruimte voor bijeenkomsten op de begane grond met tafels en banken, als je moet werken, is het daar supercomfortabel, en op de t****e verdieping is er een kleine gemeenschappelijke ruimte.
