"Het ligt dicht bij het dichtstbijzijnde station en biedt gemakkelijke toegang tot alle delen van Tokio. Het gebouw is oud en de muren zijn dun, maar de kamer en het toilet waren schoner dan ik had verwacht. Het was goed dat de prijs goedkoop was, ik kon vrij thee en koffie drinken en ik kon vrij gebruik maken van de voorzieningen. Er is ook een rookruimte en het hotelpersoneel was vriendelijk. Houd er rekening mee dat de lift niet kan worden gebruikt van 22:30 uur tot 6:30 uur!"

"The location is the main draw, for it is near many stations on different lines, and is easy to get to. (About 4 min walk from nearest station). A plus if you enjoy specialty coffee and bar. Facilities are clean and rooms are relatively big for Tokyo! Toilets are clean and well maintained."

"✨ A Hidden Gem in Ikebukero This place is a rare find in a great location. Depending on which metro line you take, it’s about a 10–15 min walk from the station (C1 exit). The street is quite narrow, so large vehicles can’t enter. If you’re taking a taxi or shuttle, you’ll need to get dropped off nearby. The reception staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We arrived early, and they allowed us to store our luggage safely—plenty of space provided. The accommodation runs on an AirBnB-style concept, with shared kitchen, bathrooms, and common areas. A washing machine is available for free use, and the dryer costs only 100 yen for 30 minutes. We booked a triple-sharing ensuite room with 3 futons, strong air-conditioning, and enough space to open our luggage comfortably. It’s cosy but perfect for three guests. Since it’s a shared-style accommodation, guests are encouraged to keep quiet and respect others. Overall, it’s simple, clean, and comfortable—great value if you’re looking for a home-like stay in the heart of Ikebukero."

"I wrote a longer review of this place that covers the basics. After I ended a business trip I decided to stay on in Tokyo so just rebooked at this spot on the app. It seems like the staff here run bookings mostly with a hand written ledger --- when I mentioned to them I was staying longer they just made a note of it and then left me a message when it was confirmed, very chill. Overall the staff at this place were pretty great. I was there for two weeks and in the time I was there I saw maybe like ten different people working there. As an English speaker, sometimes there was a language barrier, but it was never really a problem, and there is clear signage about all of the most important policies all over the place in English, Korean, and Chinese. It was always a friendly experience, most of the ppl working there were older with a kind of caring auntie vibe, so that was fun. At one point I asked to move bunks because a guy on my floor was super sick, and they arranged it with no hassle or fuss, which I really appreciated. Would definitely recommend this place for the staff."

"Geweldig hotel. Ik had geen kamer geboekt, alleen een bed, en het was super ruim. Er is een douchegordijn, een bijzettafel, een spiegel, een lamp en zelfs een kluisje. Kortom, het is fantastisch. Het is handig dat de douches op een aparte verdieping zijn – het is er rustig. De douches zijn ook erg mooi en schoon, met shampoo, conditioner en douchegel. Er zijn haardrogers beschikbaar. De lobby boven is aangenaam, perfect om te dineren en te ontspannen. Het is heerlijk om op het balkon te zitten aan een tafeltje in de frisse lucht. Het personeel is vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Ik zou hier zeker nog eens verblijven! De locatie is ook geweldig."

"Convenient hotel with a Lawson close and 13 minute and 17 minute walk subway station. The 17 minute walk has a not so flat way but it's part of Asia (ups ans downs and stairs). Hotel bed is comfortable, amenities are good, rooms are small but convenient for travelers who don't stay long at the hotel."

"In het begin was ik nogal huiverig om deze accommodatie te kiezen, maar alle zorgen verdwenen toen ik observeerde hoe anderen het deden en gewoon volgde. Vooral de gratis drankjes en alcohol van 17:00 tot 02:00 uur. Ik heb een rustige nacht gehad met mijn oordopjes in. De locatie is zo dichtbij het station Shinjuku als je de juiste afslag van Google Map volgt. Deze plek is natuurlijk niet geschikt voor een familiereis."

"I recently stayed at Ueno Station Hostel Oriental I in Tokyo, and overall it was a very satisfying experience, especially for a solo traveler looking for convenience and value. The biggest advantage of this hostel is definitely its location. It is only about a 3–5 minute walk from Ueno Station, which makes it extremely convenient for getting around Tokyo. With access to JR lines, the Tokyo Metro, and the Keisei Line to Narita Airport, transportation was simple and stress-free. The surrounding area is lively, with plenty of restaurants, convenience stores, and the popular Ameyoko shopping street nearby. The hostel itself is a capsule-style accommodation for men only. The capsule was compact, as expected in Japan, but clean and well-maintained. Each bed came with its own light, power outlet, and curtain for privacy. While you can occasionally hear other guests moving around, it was generally quiet enough to rest comfortably after a long day of exploring the city. I would recommend bringing earplugs if you are a light sleeper. One of the highlights of staying here is the public bath. After walking around Tokyo all day, soaking in the hot bath was incredibly relaxing. The bathing area and restrooms were clean and well organized, and basic amenities were provided. There is also a lounge area, lockers for luggage, vending machines, and coin-operated laundry facilities, which make the stay more convenient. For the price and location, Ueno Station Hostel Oriental I offers excellent value. It may not be luxurious, but it is practical, clean, and perfectly suited for budget-conscious travelers who prioritize accessibility and comfort. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next trip to Tokyo."
