2-Starhotels in Tainan

We wisten niet dat dit pension een self-check-in service had, waardoor we geen gereserveerde parkeerplaats hadden. Inchecken was een beetje lastig; we hadden een vierpersoonskamer geboekt, maar het was een stapelbed, anders dan de slaapzaal die we online hadden gezien, wat ons in verwarring bracht. De kamer bood slechts voldoende voorzieningen voor twee personen (comfortdekens, matrasbeschermers, badhanddoeken) en we dachten dat er een fout was gemaakt. We namen contact op met de gastheer, maar kregen geen reactie, wat onze plannen beïnvloedde. We durfden pas uit eten te gaan nadat we bij de gastheer hadden bevestigd dat de kamer in orde was en dat ze de voorzieningen zouden bieden. Toen we terugkwamen, hadden ze voldoende voorzieningen voor twee personen. Ondanks de kleine minpuntjes waren we over het algemeen tevreden en was het een nieuwe ervaring. Dit type pension is echter mogelijk niet geschikt voor ons. Het vinden van een parkeerplaats kostte veel extra tijd en parkeren 's nachts was duur. We zullen de boekingsinformatie de volgende keer zeker beter controleren.

I had a truly wonderful stay at here. The location couldn’t be better—right across from Tainan Park, it’s peaceful yet still within walking distance to the train station and local eateries. The atmosphere of the inn feels both cozy and refreshing, surrounded by greenery that makes you forget you’re in the middle of the city. The room was spotless and thoughtfully designed, with natural light, soft bedding, and just the right touch of simplicity. Every detail showed the owner’s care—from the locally roasted coffee in the common area to the warm welcome when I arrived. I especially loved the small garden space where you can relax with a cup of tea in the afternoon. What stood out most was the hospitality. The staff were friendly, attentive, and always ready with local travel tips and food recommendations. Their genuine kindness made me feel like I was visiting an old friend rather than staying at a hotel. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to Tainan. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates comfort, warmth, and a touch of nature in the heart of the city.

Ik heb één nacht in dit hostel doorgebracht en wil allereerst de vriendelijkheid en het warme welkom van het personeel benadrukken. Het team is echt aardig en behulpzaam. Mijn ervaring in de slaapzaal was echter zeer teleurstellend. De kamer heeft geen raam, wat op zich al oncomfortabel is, maar het grootste probleem zit hem in de late aankomsten. Het hostel accepteert zeer late check-ins; om 23.00 uur kwam een ​​medewerker de slaapzaal binnen en deed alle lichten aan om een ​​nieuwe gast te helpen zich te installeren, waardoor iedereen wakker werd. De algehele sfeer in de slaapzaal was ook behoorlijk respectloos en het voelde alsof de ruimte optimaal werd benut ten koste van het comfort van de reizigers. Uiteindelijk, hoewel het personeel aardig is, heeft het de slaapkwaliteit zo negatief beïnvloed dat de nacht erg moeilijk was. Dat is jammer, want een paar aanpassingen zouden de ervaring echt kunnen verbeteren.

The place was very quaint and peaceful. It is only a short walk to the train station so it is very accesible. The room is small but was ok for us. Will definitely consider booking again when I visit Tainan.

The hostel is easy to reach from train and bus station walking around 30 minutes. The front desk staff are very professional and have good online check in form. The sitting area is quite good and traditional and have a reasonable pantry with free hot drinks and some snacks. The dorm rooms are of good size with large spacious bed with curtains. The shower and toilets are on different floors and are reasonably clean. The building looks quite a traditional structure and you need to climb several steps and the staircases are very long and narrow. If you have many luggage and suitcases you will have a good workout in reaching your room. Overall the place gives a good traditional experience of Tainan and Taiwan and its worth the money charged. The location is the most ideal and you can walk to nearly all important tourist places from here. They also provide their own folded direction map. This was for me the best professionally managed owner managed hostel I have ever stayed in and you really feel immersed in Tainan staying at this Hostel.

My booking consisted of 2 double beds however due to a mismatch of details from trip, upon contacting the homestay, they notified that they only provide 1 double bed for every room. Other than that mishap, the stay was pleasant enough. Be prepared for the steep steps of Tainan. Other issues with the homestay was that there were no toothbrush/toothpaste provided, no proper bathroom mat (it was the spongy type), no proper heating in the room. The entrance was a bit hard to find especially when it gets dark. They provided 2 waterbottles for us and subsequent refills were obtained from the dispenser in the main area on Level 1. There is a public fridge and toilet in the main area too. Closeby amenities include street food alleyway with some clothes shops, 7/11, Watsons. Location was a bus ride away from Tainan Metro so relatively convenient! But .taxi would be even better.

Old Man Captain Hostel is in an unbeatable location—right in front of TRA Tainan Station, making it super convenient for travelers. However, the entrance is a bit tricky to find as it’s inside the FamilyMart by the station, so it took me a while to figure out how to get in. There’s also a Ubike station nearby, which makes exploring the city really easy. The staff were friendly and spoke English well, which made check-in and general communication smooth. As for the dormitory, the beds were pretty basic, and the room itself was quite small. It wasn’t exactly dirty, but it wasn’t particularly clean either. If you’re just looking for a place to crash for a night or two, it does the job, but don’t expect anything fancy. Overall, a good option for budget travelers who prioritize location over comfort.

The stay was nice, the hostel is very pretty, there is. free washing machine but be aware of people who move your stuff while it’s drying, forgot a sweater because of that!! Also the aircon could work better, there was a sour smell in my room during my whole stay.

This hotel is in the north of the city, so if you don't enjoy walking then use a taxi or the local buses. The room was a nice size for one person, and the decor was quite remarkable: there are bilingual signs on every wall and on any surfaces too - I found it charming in a cartoon way, but so could see how it might irritate other people. There are plenty of ATMs and places to eat nearby. It was a fine budget choice.
