Kamer met zee zicht geboekt. De aankomst was aangenaam en we werden de dag ervoor al gewezen op een afsluiting van de weg en dat we voor 12.00 uur al op onze kamer konden. Het hotel is mooie oude chique. Dikke tapijten op de vloer, grote lounge om in alle rust te zitten en te genieten. Echter, de kamer, hoewel ruim, had niet de voorzieningen die je voor dit geld (per nacht) mag verwachten. Geen koelkastje, geen luxe uitgebreide persoonlijke verzorgingsspullen, al was het maar douchekapje. Geen airconditioning of op zijn minst een ventilator. Het restaurant, hoewel op TripAdvisor met 4,5 sterren gewaardeerd, maakte het niet waar. De glazen wijn werden absurd vol geschonken. De gerechten waren niet opgemaakt. Het tempo lag absurd hoog. Er was geen tijd tussen de gerechten om even te ontspannen. We hadden een kreeft thermidor. Een hele kreeft in tweeën gesplitst en dat was het dan. Daarnaast zelf nog aardappeltjes en spinazie bij besteld. Hetgeen veel en veel te veel eten bleek te zijn. Met een beetje culinaire creativiteit had een halve kreeft op een opgemaakt bord voor de dezelfde prijs het verschil gemaakt. Wat wel in hun voordeel sprak is dat het personeel, wist wie je was. Je werd aangesproken met je naam en dat voelde welkom.

It was great to be so warmly welcomed as soon as we arrived with an offer to park our car for us and to deliver luggage to our rooms. The friendly helpfulness continued throughout our stay. Rooms were comfortable and quiet. The seafront location makes this placw a must for a return visit.

Once again a delightful stay at this hotel. The ambience is very calm and relaxed, with excellent service from all staff. The quality of food is outstanding as is the service both at breakfast & dinner, with an extensive selection at both meals. The bar area is well stocked and Jonathon is well versed in all aspects of bar work. The only thing missing is that there is never anyone playing on the beautiful grand piano in the bar area, this would undoubtedly add to the atmosphere of the bar area. There is nothing like a piano being played to "pull in the punters"!!

Very nice hotel on the seafront with clean and good quality rooms. When we arrived on four motorbikes, the concierge was looking out for us and showed us to secure garage parking, outstanding. The staff were extremely helpful and we had a great stay.

Although my family and I haven't stayed at Hotel Riviera overnight, we frequent Sidmouth often as we have a house nearby. However, we couldn't resist sharing our experience, primarily because of one outstanding individual: Anthony. Every time we visit the Hotel Riviera, Anthony's warmth and genuine hospitality never fail to impress us. He goes above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels welcomed and valued. Anthony truly embodies the spirit of hospitality. Despite not being guests at the hotel, Anthony treats us like VIPs every time we walk through the door. His professionalism and friendliness are a real asset to the Hotel Riviera, and we believe he sets the standard for exemplary customer service.

This is the second time this winter we decided to take a cream tea here. It was so relaxing and worth the little extra for a wonderful service. Thanks to Norman. We have been on most cafes and many restaurants in Sidmouth. But this is the place to really chill and feel so near to the sea. Is there any room for improvement? The scones are smaller than average for Devon, but Devon sets a high bar. It won’t stop us coming again because this is a special place.

Over 70 years I have stayed in many hotels around the world and this is one of the best. They could not do enough for you, from the concierge welcome to the chef’s wonderful touch in the kitchen even catering for my personal requirements. Beautiful decorated bedrooms and soft furnishings. Save up and treat yourselves to a quality hotel.

We stayed overnight at The Hotel Rivera on our walking holiday and after a day of hiking what a treat. The staff are all really welcoming and the hotel is very smart and comfortable. We dined in the restaurant and the food was fabulous, we shall remember this short but memorable stop over on our coastal path journey.

Superb hotel, great location. Fantastic service very attentive staff , vallet parking was a bonus. The Bed was amazingly comfortable and the room well appointed. Nice handcrafted shortbread biscuites on the tea tray. Food was lovely . Thoroughly recommend it.
