Our stay at the Shanghai Waldorf Hotel was a mixed experience. The hotel itself is luxuriously designed, embodying the spirit of Shanghai as a metropolitan economic center with a rich and glorious history. Our room had an entire view of the Bund and the Oriental Pearl Tower skyline, and the million-dollar view alone justified the relatively higher room price.
The breakfast buffet was decent, although the service was affected by understaffing. The hardworking service ladies often had to run to tend to all the guests. To improve the experience, making coffee, paper napkins, and egg dishes self-serve would be a practical solution. It seems a bit underwhelming for a luxurious hotel to overlook such details.
Service overall was very good and professional, especially from the breakfast service ladies and the staff at the entrance doors. However, there was an unfortunate incident with one staff member who helped us wheel our luggage to our room and asked for our WeChat contact to provide more information about Shanghai. While he did offer a helpful list of local restaurants and attractions, he later harassed us for days, constantly messaging and requesting that we write him a good review. He even wrote a review for himself and asked us to post it on Trip.com and Google. We have never experienced such behavior, and it's surprising that a hotel run by Hilton would allow such harassment of their guests.
In conclusion, while the Shanghai Waldorf Hotel offers a luxurious environment and stunning views, some aspects of the service need improvement. The hotel should address staff behavior to ensure guests have a comfortable and harassment-free stay.
