Saturn's Return

Saturn has not returned. We rented two rooms for a family vacation on San Juan Island. From the website the B&B sounded so great! Unfortunately, what we read and saw on their website had little in common with reality: The good: Nice location on San Juan Island. Centrally located on the island. The locally grown items for breakfast were good. It's placed on a common table so get there early or it is picked over quickly. The bedding was comfortable. The disappointing: The only egg option at breakfast was partially boiled. Because I only eat fully cooked eggs, I asked for scrambled. I was angrily scolded by a staff member that she did not offer a cooked breakfast. So disrespectful and mean. The property was a dump. With the exception of one out and back short trail (15-minute walk) you could not access the 42 acres. The property was overgrown in tall grass. It was so disappointing not to be able to explore the pond, creek, and other parts of the property. All of the buildings are in need of paint and repair. The inside of the main building had dirty floors. Flies everywhere. Fencing was in need to paint and repair. I went to fill a cup with water and found a piece of old fruit in it. I am not sure if it came from the water dispenser, or it was already in the cup provided. I was hoping to see the staff and learn about the surrounding area. They were not welcoming in that regard. They stayed to themselves under a tree on a laptop or chatting amongst themselves. So, in my opinion, this B&B could learn a lot about customer service and grounds and building upkeep. It could be amazing, as the pictures and website wanted you to believe. Sadly, especially at the cost, it was a very disappointing experience. We will never go back.

We were excited to stay at Saturn's Return and it exceeded our expectations! The grounds and lodging are beautiful. We wish that we had planned more time to sit and enjoy the property. Our room was on the first floor and had a detached private bathroom and felt very private. The care and attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the stay. The local food featured in the breakfast was delicious and made even more special due to the locality. The sense of place permeated everything. We can't wait to return!

Breakfast twigs and nuts. Bring your instant oatmeal from home. Stewed zucchini and tomatoes., passed on. No juices. Fresh bread with butter was good. Lovely couple. Need to put time into the breakfast menu.

We really enjoyed our stay with Ema and Wylie! They are the nicest people and their inn is charming and warm. The locally sourced food was such a wonderful bonus. We will certainly "return" to Saturn's Return! The only suggestion I have is to put the coffee out earlier than 8:30 for us early rising caffeine *******! :)

Beautiful setting. Owners are a young couple who are very nice and helpful. Room was great with comfortable bed. Tasty breakfast. This is an excellent choice if you are staying on San Juan Island.

Absolutely loved this brand new B&B. It's a work in progress right now as they just recently opened it, but that in many ways made it even more charming. The couple that owns and operates the place are just the warmest and most accommodating people. Do yourself a favor and spend a few nights there.

I cannot recommend Saturn’s Return enough!! Emma and Wiley are incredibly thoughtful and communicative. They were accommodating and pleasant, even when we had issues pop up in our travel itinerary. Wiley greeted us as soon as we drove up to the house. The room was so adorable, and everything was clean and ready when we arrived! Breakfast was delicious in the morning, and we could even hear the roosters crow as we were eating outside. Bird watching and stargazing were fantastic as well. We saw everything from barn swallows to woodpeckers, and even a few red tail hawks. I highly recommend checking out the trails on the property too, especially during blackberry season!!! (Emma and Wiley even had take home containers in the dining room because they have truly thought of everything!) And don’t forget to take home some zucchini and squash if you’re local. The only thing we would change is staying for more time, so we could explore the property more! We can’t wait to come back soon. :) Thank you, Emma and Wiley for saving our weekend!!

Thank you so much to Emma and Wiley for a great stay at Saturn’s Return Farm! It was such a pleasant, quiet, peaceful place to spend our anniversary. We stayed in the main king bed room in the farm house with the beautiful vaulted windows. The conditions of the rooms and farm house are exceptional, and your rotating breakfast ideas were a fun start to every morning. The farm itself is a work in progress, but it’s very fascinating to see the plan in action, there is a true vision that you two will be building for years to come. The trail behind the property is a pleasant walk through lots of native vegetation plus the ubiquitous blackberries (not-native but tasty). The entire property is a great spot to watch birds such as swallows, mourning doves, starlings, hawks, vultures, etc. I think more than anywhere else on San Juan you’ve brought the true feel of living on the island to your guests, it’s a rare departure from the motel-tier lodging common in Friday Harbor. The farm is close to English camp, an alpaca farm, lime kiln state park, and San Juan county park, but everything else on the island is only a 15 minute drive away. We’re grateful that you shared your home with us!

This place is beyond perfect! The hosts provide just the right amount of interaction. They were very attentive yet gave plenty of privacy as well. The whole place is spotless and breakfast was delicious. The bed was very comfortable and although there were a number of guests there my room was very quiet. I hardly saw or heard anyone except at breakfast. If I could give 10 stars I would! The rates are very reasonable for the area as well!
