Ashnil Samburu Camp

We just finished our 19 day safari with 23 people. All of them agreed that this was the best place that we stayed. Roomy, well appointed tents. You could see elephants across the river when you got up in the morning. Nice pool. Great staff. And the food was the best! NO BUFFETS. All meals were off a menu, well prepared and beautifully presented. WOW! And the serving staff were also the best...professional and attentive. Can't wait to go back!

My family and I had the most amazing time at Ashnil Samburu – without a doubt, three of the best nights we’ve ever had on safari! The lodge is in a truly stunning location, right on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, which divides Samburu National Reserve and Buffalo Springs Reserve. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by how peaceful and beautiful the setting was — shady, full of birdlife, and perfectly in tune with nature.The lodge grounds are teeming with wildlife. We were regularly visited by Vervet Monkeys, and the cheerful call of the Woodland Kingfisher quickly became part of our stay. Despite being so close to the wild, the lodge feels comfortable and relaxing, with every detail carefully thought through. The food was outstanding — honestly, some of the best I’ve ever had on safari! Every meal was packed with flavour, especially the mains. With two small children, we were a bit nervous about mealtimes, but the staff were incredible. They were warm, patient, and genuinely caring, even helping with our youngest so we could eat in peace. Their kindness made our stay feel effortless and special. The game viewing was incredible from start to finish. On two of our three mornings, we spent time with a female cheetah and her three five-month-old cubs — an unforgettable first for us as a family. We watched her try to hunt a dik-dik and even stand her ground against a group of oryx (another first!). Our afternoon drives were just as exciting: a pride of lions lounging on the rocks, a stunning male leopard resting in a tree, and herds of elephants crossing the river at sunset. If you’re planning a visit, one tip — make sure you purchase park fees for both Samburu and Buffalo Springs reserves. Having access to both really enhances your chances of seeing the best of what the area has to offer.Ashnil Samburu exceeded all our expectations. The setting, the wildlife, the food, and above all, the wonderful staff made it an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to return one day — truly a magical place!

This is a clean, comfortable, slightly rustic camp on the Buffalo Springs side of the park, which is very scenic. The tents overlook the river and giraffes and elephants were frequent visitors on the other side of the river. Vervet monkeys had the run of the camp so it was very important to keep the tent zipped at all times. The staff was fantastic - very friendly and efficient. The meals started with soup and salad and were absolutely delicious. We had no mosquito issues when we visited. The mattresses were very hard/firm. Electricity and hot water are not available 24/7 but are available when most people would use them.
