Arriving at Casa Moazzo in Rethymnon is like being welcomed by and inside a Cretan family with its traditional hospitality. And that’s the feeling we had during our whole 14 days stay in the picturesque old city of Rethymnon. We were travelling as a couple, over 70 years old, and greatly appreciated the help and useful information we got - whenever needed - from all members of the ownerfamily and their employees. Whether we asked for an additional cushion, a couch-spread, ground coffee for the machine in our junior-suite, some of the delicious honey from the breakfast-buffet to take to our room for mixing with the Cretan yoghurt we bought, a private guided tour through the city or suggestions for the best bus-trips to memorable locations near Rethymnon or further away. Without all the advice and help we got in this absolutely cosy and comfortable little hotel we could never have had such a wealth of impressions and truly great experiances to bring home from our first trip ever to Crete. It was a rare lucky stroke, that we booked Casa Moazzo for this journey. Thus from the beginning we felt like being immersed in this great history and culture, that is the hallmark of Crete. Staying in Casa Moazzo means experiencing the athmosphere of an historic building right in the middle of the world-famous old city of Rethymnon, while enjoying the comforts of well and modernly equipped rooms and apartments, each with its own flair. We had an ancient well (covered up) in our kitchen, for instance. You can read and enjoy a glass of wine in one of the quiet courtyards of the hotel with many fragrant plants, forgetting the time except for the bells of the nearby cathedral, stroll to one of the dozens of nearby taverns or discover original small shops and get to know traditional craftsmen. From the nearby bus-station you can travel to the other Cretan cities like Chania, Iraklion and Agios Nikolaos, visit the south coast, one of the many spectacular gorges, discover original mountain villages and time-honoured monasteries. What you don’t get in Casa Moazzo is a spectacular view from your room, nor a swimming pool or fitness-room or bar. What you DO get is the best imaginable service, a familiar athmosphere and the feeling of welcome by your hosts, and the experience of living in a centuries old mansion right in the middle of all that is happening and can be seen, smelled, heard and felt in this thousends of years old Cretan city and harbour. You really can get hooked on this incomparable and unique experience. Highly recommended!!!
