Ezemvelo Nature Reserve

We have always loved this place. So quiet and peaceful. The road network has deteriorated since we were last there. Chalets good and clean and staff very friendly and helpfull. Animals are in abundance.

Never heard of this reserve. 🤔 Booked only 1 night, that was a mistake. Lovely drive to the reserve,directions spot on. Welcome at the gate by a ostrich . Plains game on route. Very friendly check in staff. Beautiful unit and had all we needed. Took a drive out and saw plenty of game. Walked the rocks and dip in the stream around the hut. Road a bit challenging down. Sadly no signs to the mountain hut which I was keen to see. Beautiful sunset with sundowner on a hill. Night sounds only the nightjar. Peaceful and tranquility. Run in the morning around the property, magic with sunrise over the dam. Will be back, paradise on our doorstep. Went during the week .

Awesome staff.. rooms clean and comforable. Quiet and peacefull surroundings. Roads could use some frading to smooth but this is nature .. Animals in very good condition. Shop has all the essentials..

Ezemvelo is a beautiful nature reserve, only an hour from Pretoria. You really feel like you've escaped into nature. The animal sightings are amazing and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The chalets have everything you need and sometimes a little extra, like monkeys in your kitchen or wildebeest just across the road! 100% would recommend!

We have been here a few times already. It is a lovely breakaway from the everyday rush that life becomes. It's peaceful and relaxing. Lovely scenery, nice to go for a morning or late afternoon walk. Nice clean pool which is suitable for children and adults.

As usual the natural environment is astoundingly beautiful. Lots of stunning animals. But as a 30 year patron I was very disappointed by the closing down of the grater part (with the best trees) to erect tents. As a wheelchair user I was also a bit taken aback by the fact that the only bath in the camping area was closed and after all these years there is still no wheelchair accessible toilet. The ablution blocks were clean and neat. The roads, other than the entrance road, definitely only for 4x4 vehicles. I still love the place and will return.

Good gravel road for 20km. Felt you were out of the city as soon as you drive on the road. Well sign posted. Ostrich met us on arrival. Plenty of plains game. Beautiful scenery , sunset and sunrise. Excellent trails to walk. Great reserve to run or cycle and be close to the wildlife. Amazing river with little stone pools, great for a nature swim with beauty surrounds you. Very friendly staff at reception. Free WiFi at reception. Chalet had everything we needed. Private braai area and view of the dam. Felt refreshed and the only sounds you hear at night is call of jackal and nightjars. Stars amazing. Bed was very comfortable and hot water was very hot. Well kept reserve and look forward to recharging the battery again. Well worth the visit.

We were lucky enough to be able to camp mid week. There was only one other camper in the site so we basically had the place to ourselves. Ezemvelo is always such a treat. You feel immersed in nature as the wildlife is close to your camp - Wildebeest, Impala, Ostrich and Monkeys walking through the camp during the early morning and late afternoon. Campsite is very scenic, clean ablutions with hot showers. Electricity and drinking water is readily available. We got to do some epic MTB rides with zebra, Blesbok, Wildebeest, Springboks and Elands all running across the veld in front of us - thrilling. The only negative is the vervet monkeys in camp. We did not have food in our tent yet they still ripped the tent open to get inside and explore what we had. Be vigilant, take strong canvass tents and do not turn your back on them - they will steal food from under your nose!

Absolutely stunning place, good for mountain biking and just to relax. The staff is all very friendly and our stay was extremely fun and relaxing. The Manager went above and beyond and was very helpful.
