My husband and I recently spent five nights in the French House, staying in the Master Suite as part of our (very belated!) honeymoon. I don't often write reviews but felt compelled to for this one, having had an absolutely magical time. The house itself is stunning, with gorgeous 360-degree views across Bequia. You are set fully apart from any other properties, which gives a wonderful sense of peace and seclusion, and yet have everything you could possibly need within reach. There is a large shared sitting/dining room, equipped with books and games, and plenty of seating space both indoors and outdoors. We had our own mini kitchen as part of the suite, but there is also a full-size kitchen on-site. My favourite part of the house was the little plunge pool which could almost be set in the Italian hills, surrounded by trees, flowers and wildlife. We didn't have a car while we were at the property, and driving is essential if you want to leave the house (it sits up in the hills at the end of a long drive), so relied largely on taxis which worked fine for us. Port Elizabeth was a 10-minute drive away and Lower Bay around 20, so easy to get to and great for days out at the beach. I need to give the biggest shout-outs and thanks to two people: Judit and Dexter. Judit was incredibly understanding and flexible throughout the chopping and changing of our plans since 2020 and we were so grateful to be finally able to visit this summer. Dexter was absolutely phenomenal throughout our stay, from start to finish. From the warm greeting and making sure we were able to pick up food after a rocky day of travelling, to lifts into town and wonderful breakfasts, he truly went above and beyond to ensure we made the most of our time on the island. Thank you, Dexter, for everything! I would not hesitate to recommend the French House to anyone wanting a quiet Bequia break and hope everyone enjoys their time there as much as we did.
