Hamakua Guesthouse

We hebben een geweldig verblijf gehad in dit eco-geweten pension! Als u echter alle moderne voorzieningen van een high-end hotel wilt, geniet u misschien niet van de nabijheid van het regenwoud en stelt u het misschien niet op prijs om off-the-grid te zijn. Het was geweldig om je ondergedompeld te voelen in het regenwoud en 's nachts alle geluiden van de natuur te horen. Ik vind het geweldig dat ze van de grid zijn en ik voelde niet dat het een opoffering was. Ze hebben wifi! We waren daar met vrienden, nog een stel (allemaal in de 50 en 60), en verbleven in het pension (niet de cabana's). Onze kamer was schoon, evenals de gemeenschappelijke ruimtes en de badkamers. De wind die door kwam was geweldig en er zijn prachtige uitzichten. Het was geweldig om andere gasten en de eigenaren te ontmoeten en te spreken. Ik zal terugkomen!

Ik kan niet genoeg zeggen over het verblijf in deze cabanas en de magie die hen omringt. Ik heb nogal wat door de VS gereisd met behulp van hipcamp en air bnb en de plaats van Mathew is op zich al de moeite waard om naar het grote eiland te komen. De mensen waren zo gastvrij, de afgelegen waterval was meer dan betoverend, en de cabana zelf heeft me geïnspireerd om te proberen iets soortgelijks thuis te creëren ... hoewel mijn versie in vergelijking zal verbleken. Als je voor een bepaalde periode naar het grote eiland komt, is dit een bestemming op zich.

Magical experience at the Riverside house! Swimming in the river and waterfall was so amazing. The Hamakua Coastline is beautiful! I wish we could stay longer and explore everything in the area. The cabin comes equiped with a full kitchen, bathroom and shower. The sound of running water is so soothing.

The entire experience was so wonderful. Everything at the property is well organized and with the help of strategically placed signs, guests are able to navigate the property easily. The cabanas are very nice - sleeping in the hammock actually ended up being some of the best sleep and best dreams I have ever had. My husband is 6’2” and he loved it too. We are getting hammocks at home asap. Even when it rains at night, you stay dry inside and cozy with the blankets provided. The amenities available at the main house like food storage, a fridge, coffee and French press and grill - are amazing. There are stores, markets and even a wal mart near by with prices that are reasonable and very similar to Indiana. There is a bakery, Mr Eds, down a beautiful rain forest road- that sells amazing breakfast foods, baked goods and other goodies. The entire little town of Honomu is perfect and we loved Hilo in every way. It is possible to get your laundry washed while staying here, go for walks, play with the kitties who live there and interact with other residents staying for one night or more. The open shower/bathroom turned out to be an awesome experience. There is a lot of parking available and it’s an easy drive any where you go. You definitely need a car. The entire place is beautiful, colorful birds and dragonflies are everywhere! Of course with any place , it is important to be realistic. Like I mentioned earlier, there could be multiple people staying there on the property while you’re there so there could be some noise at different times of the night or day, but for the most part it’s not major. You might have to wait for a restroom- but there are two restrooms . This is the rainier side of the island so you might get more rain than what you might’ve expected And inside the cabana if it’s very windy, the curtains will move some. Because it’s the wet side of the island there’s a chance that you’ll have some mosquito interaction. Just make sure you bring your (natural) repellent. This location is earth friendly with multiple people there so that means you’re not going to take a 30 minute hot shower and you’re not going to just have unlimited power usage, etc. The entire Island has an increased capacity for mold, so ya, you might see mold. There might even be a roach from time to time on the island. Overall, love it. We plan on staying here frequently!

It is located in a remote area with really bad road leading to the place. The room is really small and smells with shared bathrooms outside for all tenants. We arrived at night with no electricity in the building. The breakfast place is decent though but you have to drive there.

There are a lot of positives about this place: well-maintained, pretty, isolated property, our bedroom was very nice, and there's a wonderful folder in the room with a detailed list of the property itself, nearby communities, and things to do. But trying to communicate with the property was a disaster. Myself and other guests couldn't get in contact with anyone before arriving, and some guests just had to wait in the common room before they could access the room code. Additionally, there are laminated signs literally EVERYWHERE, instructing guests on what to and not to do (it's very preschool). And lastly, while houseguests are admonished to be quiet as a mouse after 9 p.m., that doesn't go for the staff downstairs, who party the night away. Micromanaging of guests and mismanagement by employees isn't a great combo. Maybe we caught them on a bad couple days.

Beautiful place. The manager (owners?) were never around, and it would have been nice to get some local perspective on things. Noisy guests with big feet also problematic!

The road to guesthouse had several pot holes so very hard to drive especially at night Steep narrow stairs to room and loft. Carrying luggage up stairs was hard Small living and kitchen space and shared washroom with several guests

Super relaxing off-grid accommodation. The house was well-equipped, and very quiet and relaxing even with other guests staying in another room. We had a great time, and plan to stay here again someday. The booking process was easy, and the communication we received was very intentional and timely.
