"Location: Near to Karuizawa train station (approximately 15 min walk to hotel west) and 10min walk to shopping mall. 5 min shuttle bus to reach ski area. Room: Clean and comfortable. But the bath powder is like toilet detergent scent. Amenities: there is Family mart operates until 11pm in hotel west. Service: Front desk lady can’t really speak English and hard to communicate. The man at cloakroom is unfriendly. Shuttle bus service: Shuttle bus service provided within the shopping area, hotel east and west. However, the instruction is unclear to us. When we queued up for the bus to station, the hotel staff did not inform us the bus was here and to align the bus but just change the next bus arrival timing. Until entire lane of the guests missed the bus. We had to walk all the way to station with our huge luggage. Snow Park: No clear direction or sign board to go snow park from hotel east. The snow park area is kinda small and suitable for young kid (below 7 years old). It is boring for kid above 7 years old."

"Met with welcoming and good service staff, start of a great 2-night stay. The breakfast, Japanese and Western were appetising. There are 2 routes to the hotel by car, both will have narrow and winding country roads at certain stretch to and from the hotel. Can be intimidating drive in the night especially when the days are short from November onwards."

"The hotel is brand new. The room is lovely and so spacious! The bed was huge and it was comfortable, we all slept well every night. Staff were courteous and attentive. We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel location is also perfect, right on old karuizawa ginza street with many food and shopping options nearby during the day. The breakfast options were very limited and the food was the same every day, so I found it a challenge to feed my toddler. Basic food items like cereal and slice bread were not available. The fruit options were also limited and not the most child friendly e.g. pineapple, grapefruit and grapes. Also, the rooms are not made every day but you can request for the staff to clean and make the room. Overall we still had a great stay and hope to visit again soon."

"Een nacht van complete chaos, een nacht die ik voor altijd op mijn zwarte lijst zal zetten – Hoshinoya, het meest teleurstellende ”luxe” hotel waar ik ooit heb verbleven. Met hoge verwachtingen van het merk Hoshinoya plande ons gezin van vier deze reis, maar het bleek de meest rampzalige en onaangename nacht van mijn reiservaring te zijn. Ik moet deze recensie schrijven om iedereen te waarschuwen die een gezinsreis met kinderen plant. We hadden duidelijk een tweepersoonskamer geboekt, ervan overtuigd dat die voldoende zou zijn voor twee volwassenen en twee kinderen. Bij het inchecken deelde het personeel aan de receptie ons echter met een koude toon en een stijve glimlach mee dat de tweepersoonskamer vanwege het aantal en de leeftijd van de kinderen ”niet aan de eisen voldeed” en dat we niet samen konden verblijven. Hoe we het ook uitlegden of probeerden te communiceren, ze gedroegen zich als een geprogrammeerde machine en herhaalden steeds de hotelregels zonder enige coulance of oprechte intentie om het probleem op te lossen. Die koude en onpersoonlijke houding maakte direct een einde aan ons reisplezier. Het meest absurde probleem begon toen: we werden in de middle of nowhere achtergelaten. Het was laat en de twee kinderen waren uitgeput, maar we moesten ter plekke een nieuwe accommodatie vinden. Vol wanhoop en woede zochten we in allerijl naar het nabijgelegen Prince Hotel en boekten het 's avonds laat in de lobby. Gedurende het hele proces bood het hotelpersoneel geen enkele hulp, ze keken ons koud aan alsof onze benarde situatie hen niets aanging. Uiteindelijk, met onze vermoeide bagage en uitgeputte lichamen, ”ontsnapten” we midden in de nacht naar het Prince Hotel. De warme, begripvolle en efficiënte afhandeling in het Prince Hotel ontroerde ons bijna tot tranen. De dure nacht in het Hoshinoya voelde als een complete ironie. Ik begrijp dat hotels regels en voorschriften hebben, maar wordt de waarde van een tophotel niet juist weerspiegeld in de zorg voor ”gasten” en de wijsheid om flexibel om te gaan met onverwachte situaties? Het Hoshinoya voelde voor mij slechts aan als een ”luxe showroom” vol starre voorwaarden en een kille sfeer. Het is misschien geschikt voor alleenreizenden die extreme eenzaamheid zoeken, maar voor een gezin bood het absoluut geen warmte. Deze ervaring was niet alleen geldverspilling, maar heeft ook ons ​​vertrouwen in dit merk volledig geschaad. Hoshinoya, voorgoed vaarwel."

"Hotel Grandvert is a gem for travelers who wants a good stay on a budget. It is located within a few minutes walk from the karuizawa station and the premier outlet shopping, family mart is right across the street and lawson is just adjacent to it, which makes it super convenient for us to travel and get some daily necessities. The room is spacious and comfortable, and my family loves the library (although mostly japanese and limited foreign language available) and the chill out area for a drink after a long walk during the day."
