YHA Dartmoor

We camped in the field next to the hostel. Dog friendly and some fabulous walks in the forest across the road. £10 per night and dogs free.Full use of the hostel facilities. Will definitely be returning!

If you're a fan of nature, love hiking and learning about the history of your surroundings; this place is for you! Sweet little hostel located in the centre of the national park. Great place for stargazing (just check the moon phases before hand!). Lots of nearby nature trails, if you're lucky you'll get to see some animals, including the cooing of woodpeckers nearby! Staff was lovely, allowed us to check in early, even had a cute little dog who came and said hello to us at one point. Plenty of facilities, although we didn't really use them, little reasonable price food and drink shop - we got two bottles of pepsi max for £3.00. Offered breakfast too, at a price of course! I also really liked that they had a little bird-watching room in the living room, a potential favourite for birdwatchers. Recommend this place as a little night or two's stay! Only wish was that we had a better view from our room.

This place is ideally situated in the middle of Dar**oor. Its immediate surrounds are lovely and great for hiking. Not only that but the staff are lovely, really helpful. Jane (I think) was even kind enough to find some disposable bags for me to use between my boots and socks for the next day of hiking as my boots were soaked through. The food’s good too. Simple tasty stuff. The rooms are basic, but what you’d expect. Really liked the place.

An excellent location for exploring Dar**oor - walking, cycling, or by car. Food excellent. Staff friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Visiting ponies a delightful addition to the local ambience. Nice location to get away from it all.

Doing the coast to coast/2 moors way, it’s been a good run up from Plymouth. But now we are getting tired, the last coffee and cake was in Princetown and we. We need somewhere to stop for the night. And as if by magic we stumbled upon YHA Dar**oor. Sadly no beds were available (serves us right for not booking!) but we are welcome to use some trees to sling hammocks and are welcome to use the facilities including showers, dinner and cold cider! We had breakfast too! It’s the staff that make or break places like this and the ladies were great. So well done to them and the YHA in general.

Very friendly manager, hostel not too noisy or hot, and bunkbeds sturdy and comfy (fairly new I think). Duvets a bit too thick, but maybe that's just us! Apart from that detail, our stay was perfect. Some walks from the door, and a short drive to the really good bits of Dar**oor. What a tonic. Thank you!

Really sweet and small YHA right in the middle of the moor. A real getaway from london life. We happened to be v lucky with the weather and went on 2 massive walks. The scenery is fabulous and the wild ponies / Alpacas and wildlife are gorgeous. Tip: don't use a sat nav to get there, unless you really like travelling down v narrow roads with multiple twists and turns and very long puddles / fords! The staff are super friendly and I would highly recommend.

YHA is the place to stay when visiting the outdoors. You always know that there are drying facilities and hot showers waiting for you after a hike or cycle when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Once again, a delightful stay in this small, friendly and wonderfully clean hostel. We had chicken burger and pizza for supper (something is always provided) and the full breakfast including cereal, croissants, toast and hot food. Beer, wine, soft drinks available from receiption (the 'bar'). The location is great (access from the B road is easy rather than through the middle of the moor, so look it up rather than follow Sat Nav if that is helpful). Bellever Forest is a stones throw away and so beautiful with the river tumbling through. Lots of sheep, horses and cattle to be seen. A lovely pub on the moor at Postbridge has tables on the grass opposite and horses milling about in the evening sunshine. Highly recommend.
