Howard Johnson by Wyndham Athens

I was very unhappy with my stay. The pictures are NOT what the hotel looks like in real life. It is dirty and unkept. There was a large hole in the ceiling above the toilet. The humidity from the shower made it worse. There was tape on the banister above the double doors from a previous stay. The **** smell in the hall was so strong the entire time we were there. Then the OWNER of the hotel had the audacity to tell us we were going to have to move to a smoking room!!! He was NOT accommodating at all! Needless to say, we left and will not ever go back. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The place was filthy! Roaches in the bathroom and comforter had dirt marks on it. We ended up not even staying in the room that night because of the filth, roaches and smell! Do not stay at this place.

People were cooking outside hotel and smell every where looking like they lived there. Toilet clogged called front desk about 10 pm and they said they couldnt take care of it until about 9 am. Heater set to auto and never turned off ahad set to 60 and felt like a sauna. Worst stay ever.

For the price it is absolutely not worth it. Never did get the internet to work so was not able to watch tv. The bed was comfortable. Shower was newly installed. With the exception of an extremely noisy refrigerator in the room the over night was quiet.

Showing it’s age, but pleasant staff and a very comfortable bed.

The room was clean and had some updates but the hotel itself needs alot more updates

no water available it would be nice to have bottled water available somewhere on the property. Rude check in, no wifi. I understand the property is old and out dated but for $500/night you could do much better on your service - and simple offer of bottled water would be nice. Had to drive to fast food just for water? outlet not working in room. bed was comfortable, room clean just out dated. rude person at check in

Our daughter is moving in to UGA, and we made reservations to stay here for a couple of nights. They always say you don’t judge a book by its cover. Well, you don’t judge a hotel by their pictures. When we checked in, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. When we started up the steps to go to our room located on the second floor, there was an opened bag of garbage on the top step. Not to mention the smell of alcohol. The carpet in the hallway needs to be replaced. It smelled old and musty when we walked in. And the doors/hallway could use some fresh paint. The bathroom definitely needs updating. It is small and does not have a working exhaust fan. So you can imagine how miserable it gets when taking a shower. There was a dead roach in the floor between the wall and our bed. Not to mention the two roaches that I killed. As I looked out of the sliding glass door onto the balcony, there was a large spider web. So you better believe we were up early the next morning, ready to get out of this place. We only booked our stay here because of the advertisement with the “cute” pictures, plus the price was very reasonable. As the saying goes…you get what you pay for. We will pay more for a much better place on our future visits to Athens. Take my advice, stay the hell away!!
