Parkhotel Sonnenhof

I stayed in this hotel in July. As I travelled with Deutsche Bahn, I took a bus from the train station, because of the heavy luggage (Oberammergau was not my only stop). I was glad to see that there's a bus stop near the hotel. From the station you can take any bus driving to Linderhof, Garmisch, and so so on, for they all stop there, at the parking near the little river in front of the hotel. I was warmly welcomed and I was glad and surprised to discover that I got a free upgrade of my room. I booked a double room single use and got a 45 mt. apartment at the top floor! The elevator doesn't go to this upper floor, so I had to make the last steps on a staircase, but I was asked, if I had a problem with that. The apartment consisted of an entrance, a double room with balcony with mountain view, a large bathroom with two windows, a room to store luggage, a living room and a little single room. Both the double room and the living room had a TV and a bottle of mineral water with two glasses. On the balcony there was a table with two chairs, and night illumination: it was really wonderful to spend some time in the evening there. The breakfast buffet is very good and the same restaurant serves dinner (you can choose the daily menu or a la carte) in the evening and is a bar/cafe during the afternoon. It also has an outside terrace. Dishes are very tasty and abundant and the restaurant staff is very kind. There's a fitness room, a very small swimming pool with very long opening times and perfect water temperature, sauna, and so on. You can borrow a bathrobe and pool towel from the reception. For the rainy days there are also some living rooms at the reception floor. You can hire bikes at the reception (unfortunately the day I planned for a bike tour it was raining!) and the prices are fair. I had a great stay at the hotel and I hope to stay another time there in the future. It was one of my best stays ever.

Bellissimo hotel a pochi passi dal centro della cittadina bavarese, dotato di parcheggio all'esterno ed alcuni posti auto nel cortile interno, camere ampie e funzionali, ricchissimo breakfast a buffet con ampia scelta di cibi e bevande, al punto che non è possibile gustare tutte le proposte, gentilezza alla reception, pulizia nelle camere, rapporto qualità prezzo in linea con i servizi offerti. Da tener presente in occasione di viaggi in Baviera.

We traveled and the weather wasn’t the best but we spent a great time. Shoutout to the kitchen/waiter personnel because they went above and beyond for us, traveling with a child that is a very picky eater! They even pulled out a piece of cake and 3 candles for his birthday that was the morning of our leave! Super satisfied! Rooms are comfy and clean, the view is amazing and the city is out of a fairytale! Only downside is that they don’t offer lunch but breakfast is more than filling!

A beautiful hotel with staff who couldn’t be more helpful. The room was large with a balcony overlooking the valley. The spa had a nice sauna and small plunge pool. The restaurant had a hearty breakfast and good menu for dinner. Located with a 5 minute walk into town.

Ausgesprochen freundliche Mitarbeiter, sehr aufmerksam. Guter Service, besonders auch an der Bar und bei Tisch. Bedingt durch die Nato Schule auch interessantes Publikum. Ungewöhnlich: Ich bekam bei Anreise einen Bewertungsbogen nicht nur in die Hand gedrückt sondern hatte auch von Anfang an das Gefühl, dass der Leitung des Hauses das Feedback wirklich wichtig ist. Vor allem aber: alles blitzblank. Frühstück und Kaffee gut. Ich war sehr zufrieden und bin hier - eben auch für eine Nacht - sehr gut untergekommen.

An Weihnachten hat der Chef des Hotels einen Gast während des candle light dinner lauthals vor allen Gästen im Speisesaal angeschrien und böse beschimpft. Der Gast hat sich lediglich wegen des schlechten Service gemeldet. "Frohe Weihnacht".

Die Lage des Hotels am Fluss und die Küche sind gut. Zimmer und Räume erscheinen veraltet. Im Service liegt einiges im Argen. Bei 4 Sternen mit diesen Preisen wird mehr erwartet als hier angeboten wird.

Extremely nice food and big portions, on Sunday for breakfast smoked salmon and Prosecco, amazing selection of cheese, nice rooms, small but warm and clean pool and sauna, beautiful views, location 3 min from centre and by the river. Much better choice to stay there and drive to Gapa then stay in overpriced Gapa

Stayed 3 nights with a tour group. Hotel is very well located. Oberammergau is a lovely quiet little town. The rooms are a good size, very comfortable and very clean. It's a warren of rooms and corridors but doesn't take long to find your way and is well sign posted. Friendly welcoming staff and a good breakfast
