Woefully understaffed. When we arrived, a single woman was supposed to manage the reception and the bar area. An impossible task given you can't even see both from either location. The same was true of breakfast. Just two staff, who were not able to keep on top of things. Our room (302) was very basic for the price. No power sockets near the bed, indeed only a single double socket in the entire room. No drawers and only a single, small rail. The bed, however, was comfortable and we slept well. Then we got up for breakfast. After being there for a couple of minutes one of the ladies (who was cleaning tables at the time) asked if we’d pre-booked, and we agreed to pay after eating. That turned out to be a wise choice. I was particularly looking forward to some orange juice but when I got a glass, I found it to be worse than cheap squash. It was utterly undrinkable. It really was just coloured water. We decided to wait for our friends, who had pre-paid for their breakfasts. We chatted and mentioned that the breakfast really didn’t look very appetising. We all perused the food (including the stone-cold pancakes left out in the open) and agreed that it looked awful. The final point was when we watched a woman get herself an English breakfast, take two bites and then push her plate away, with an obvious look of disappointment, mixed with disgust. At that point we went to get breakfast elsewhere. Then to add insult to injury I acted on a hunch. I checked the prices for the Premier Inn across the road and found it was 2/3 of the price of our room at the Travelodge. That is not even bringing in the fact that I had to park I the Rose Street car park at £20 for 24 hours, whereas the Premier was £9 for 24 hours, in their own car park. Overall, I won’t be staying at this branch ever again and warn others to think twice before booking.
