Smyth Tribeca

Great location and the room was big, bigger then some others in NYC. Just need a kettle in the room would be better.

I had much higher expectations for the property due to high price and the perception of a luxury boutique hotel. The whole experience was average. The staff was not particularly enthusiastic or helpful and forgot entirely about requests made (e.g. asking for utensils). Food Room service food was good and solid, and arrived quickly. Room I upgraded to a corner king suite and other than the larger size, it didn't seem to provide anything additional over the standard room. Appreciated the numerous outlets and USB plugs. There were tons of windows and the drapes and blinds had to be drawn manually by squeezing behind a desk - this is really inconvenient and should be automatic. The cups were not clean and had a bad smell. Bathroom The room was generally clean but I did find a few stray hairs in the bathroom. The hairdryer was unacceptable and needs to be upgraded. Towels were small, rough and cheap. Toilet paper and tissues were of unacceptable quality (see-through, flimsy and rough). The Malin Goetz toiletries were good. There is a sensor that turns on the bathroom light automatically which is actually quite annoying when going to the bathroom at night. Again for this price point in NYC, other hotels will provide a few extras that just feel elevated - turn down service, not having to request items (slippers, kettle), little perks or personalized touches.

Lobby and bar are great design, etc. rooms need upgrade. Carpets and furniture old, not worth $300-400

This was my first trip to NYC. I always look for an affordable property with good reviews. This hotel was one of the best choices we’ve ever made. Located in Tribeca (2 blocks from Taylor Swift’s home) this hotel was clean, quiet and beautiful. There are train stops on every near corner. There are coffee shops within walking distance every direction. Corner deli with great food all around. While we didn’t try the hotel restaurant we ate well everyday. This hotel is located in a quieter, less tourist part of NYC. If you are brave enough to use the train system and happy to get in 15000 steps a day, this is the hotel for you. It was near perfect. The only feedback I can give is the doorman, on more than a few occasions, watched me open the very heavy entry door myself. Which I could do, but I thought that was implied in the title “doorman”. 5 start for this hotel.

The location is great. We could walk to everywhere in lower Manhattan. The subway was right outside. It was a nice New York boutique hotel. The staff was very friendly.

Lovely stay, great service (especially housekeeping!). Wonderful lounge area off reception; perfect for warming up by the fire.

Overall a very great option. Only complaint is that the bathroom is semi-private

In my opinion this property was a good value relative to the location in NYC. I had a renovated corner room, on the 4th floor, which was very spacious, modern, and nicely appointed. (Note that only the first 4 floors are renovated.). My only word of caution is the fact that the corner rooms have full glass on 2 sides, which is gorgeous but does translate to lots of street noise. If you can’t sleep with the full range of NYC sounds, including overnight trash pickup near by, try for an interior room. I assume it would be more quiet. But the corner rooms are really really spacious for a city, especially in NYC. Overall, fantastic option for the Tribeca location!
