First of all, this is NO LONGER MARRIOT, which is probably why I'm giving this 3 stars because the new ownership, Opal, is miserable. We stayed here when it was Marriot & the care & front desk was lovely. Now it's part of the Opal "Collection" - pretentious claim. Our first bellhop was so great! Once you're in your room, you don't get any printout in your room on the various hotel services, i.e. when the gym opens /closes, when the indoor pool opens/closes, when the outdoor pool opens/closes, if you get a hot coffee/tea breakfast in the morning, if you get coffee/tea afternoon, nothing. Everything you want to know you need to phone and as & then you're told "Please hold on." It's totally cheap. That's #1. #2 This also had repercussions because the night before checkout, I phoned and asked if we could have a late checkout, 12noon instead of 11am. We were told that anything after 11am would cost $50 and were asked "Would you like us to charge your room the $50 now?" The next day we were anxious bc there's only one bellhop & -- we discovered -- he's the only person allowed to push the carts, and there were other patrons of course also trying to also leave by 11am, so a late checkout became important to us. Now, in a panic, the front desk said that we had until 11:30. Go figure. Is this Opal Collection just trying to nickel & dime (a little $50 here, a little $50 there) customers? And return customers? It's a great way for people to not return. #3: We had light fare at the bar one evening. The next evening we had the same but one item we'd requested was sold out, so we chose another item that cost more. They said they'd destroy the 1st bill. But at checkout the next day (at 11am), the bill for the 2nd night was more than double what it should have cost. It was a total mess to try to get it straightened out. Apparently the bar submitted BOTH bills! Outrageous! So you know that these hotels no longer slip your bill under your door so you can see it before you leave. That way they get away with bad charges, because upon checkout you have to ask for the printout & check it out. That's when we saw the wrong, i.e. DOUBLE PLUS, charge. The desk person said she'd look at the restaurant slips. I spent some time by the pool & returned a few hours later & she had not. It was a total mess to try to get it right. We ended up splitting the one double bill in half but that wasn't right either. And we were not happy about somebody screwing up our bill like that and receiving a tip. #4 Our entire stay, never came out from the office to try to help us w this. There was only one person at the front desk, and she was not able to sufficiently assist with this. And nobody from the back office, NO MANAGER ever came out to assist. OUTRAGEOUS! Is this how this Opal Collection makes its money? Bad restaurant bills? BC they know people aren't going to stand there & get it right? This is a total lack of integrity and a total lack of respect for the customer. Is it
